"What have you been up to all day? You weren't in my bed when I got home." Rafe asked Iris as he walked into her room later that evening, knowing exactly where she was today.

Iris, startled by his presence, jumped and refused to meet his eyes, "Nothing much."

Rafe nodded, unsure if he should bring up what he knew about her helping the Pogues find the gun he used to murder Peterkin. He bit his tongue, refraining for now, which again, was unlike him.

"You're not going to ask how my day was?"

Iris rolled her eyes, "How was your day, Rafe?"

"It was fine. I found something out today."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, I'm going to the Bahamas with my dad tomorrow."

"What? Why?" She asked, curiously.

Rafe shrugged, "He didn't tell me the details, he just invited me."

To go and get the gold. Ward wants to go and get the gold.

Shit. What if they run into Sarah and John B?

Nah, there's no fucking way.

"Why do you look so shocked?" Rafe asked her.

"I, uh, I mean, I'm surprised he asked you. That's all."

"Yeah, so was I. But uh, since Sarah is gone, um, I guess he has no choice but to bring me." He laughed nervously.

Iris let out a breath, "Um, when will you be back?"

"A day or two, tops."

"Okay."

Rafe walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead, "I'll stay here tonight."

"Okay."

And tonight was the first night in weeks that they hadn't has sex. Instead, they fell asleep in each other's arms. Well, Iris fell asleep first, then Rafe. His mind was everywhere. He had almost killed her today because she was trying to do the right thing by putting fault on the person who truly committed the crime. How could he do that to her? A split second of anger that could have messed up his whole world. Because Iris was his whole world. Everything else didn't matter, but she did. And he wanted to protect her at all costs, even if it meant going down for the crime he committed. As long as she was safe, and happy. As long as she got her cottage on the ocean, it would be okay. Wouldn't it? He let a few tears fall from his eyes as he pulled her closer, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head. He wished they could stay like this forever, but they couldn't. And he desperately wished that he was a different person. Maybe then he wouldn't have done all the awful things that he did.

He tried to get up without waking her, but he failed, "Shit, I'm sorry. Go back to bed."

"It's okay." She sleepily replied, gazing up at him.
