He thought about wether or not he should tell you, but he decided the truth would be best. "Well," He began, playing with his fingers. "I woke up randomly, which happens to me a lot so that wasn't weird, but you were crying.. in your sleep."
"I don't know what you were dreaming about, but I woke you up, and you kinda just- hugged me. So I laid us down, and I.. uh... held you-" His face cringed a little as he said the last part. "And then all of a sudden we were back asleep."
You were shocked, but you were also flustered. You didn't remember dreaming, but you could only assume that it was your reoccurring nightmare. You were confused as to why you went to Hunter for comfort, but if he was the only one there you guess it made sense.
"Sorry.." You said quietly.
"It's alright. Again, I like having someone I can be close to, so I don't mind." He said with a little smile. Your head perked up and you tilted it slightly, having a confused look on your face.
"So you meant what you said last night?" You asked.
He nodded awkwardly. "Well, in that case.." You walked closer to him and wrapped your arms around him, pulling him close. He hugged you back hesitantly, and you laid your head in the crook of his neck.
You didn't know why you decided to just hug him, but it seemed like both of you needed a hug, so who better to hug than each other?
He tightened his grip on you, and you felt his arms shaking. "Are you okay Hunter?" You whispered sweetly.
"Yea-" He began to reply but you cut him off with a bit more seriousness in your voice.
"No, are you okay? You haven't even told me where you're from, even though I've told you everything about myself. You say you "like having someone to be close to" as if you don't have any other friends. Hunter, are you okay?"
His voice quivered as he tried to get an answer out, but instead his whole body began to shake. He lost balance, and you both fell to the ground, still holding each other tight.
You took this as his answer, and rubbed his back slowly, trying to comfort him. You heard as he tried to muffle his sobs, but it didn't work very well. After about 5 minutes, his sobs became sniffles, and his sniffles became less frequent.
Still hugging, he began to talk. "My uncle.. he's not a very kind man. He sends me off to do different.. tasks for him, and when I fail to do so, he.. punishes me. I don't know why I'm such a failure, but I just can't seem to get anything right..."
He was careful with his words, to keep his identity as the Golden Guard confidential, but since you already knew, you could decipher everything he said.
"You're not a failure, Hunter. I don't think anybody's truly a failure!" You smiled sympathetically.
"You really don't? But how? I mean, surely there's somebody out there who's failed everything they've been told to do!" Hunter said with surprise.
"Well, maybe there is, but I do know that you're not that person. You succeed at tons of things!" You exclaimed.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" He asked doubtfully.
"You totally got me last night with the whole snowball sneak attack thing. I really thought you were hurt!" You laughed a little to lighten the mood.
