(13) Compliance

"I can protect myself, Hunter." You said, followed by a chuckle.

"I know you can, it just scares me. Anything could happen while we're both asleep, so one of us has to stay up."

"Then how about I stay up tonight?" You asked jokingly.

He sighed, and squeezed you tighter. "Just because, okay? I refuse to let you get hurt, or captured, or eaten by the Slitherbeast, or.. or..."

You gave him another kiss on the cheek, which quickly stopped his rambling. He began stuttering, but was really just at a loss for words.

After he took a few seconds to regain his composure, he pulled away from the hug and sat down. "What's up?" You asked, sitting next to him.

"Y/N," He rubbed the back of his neck. "I know that we've kind of talked about... this... already, but -and I know this is a weird question- What are we?"

You gasped quietly, and looked away from him, your eyes darting across the textured snow. You thought hard on an answer, but you didn't know how to answer his question. You both like each other, but neither of you have actually straight-up acknowledged it yet. Plus, you've only known him for a few days.

You knew you had to respond, so you finally came up with something.

"What do you want us to be?" You asked calmly, even though your head was rushing with thoughts. "I don't know-" He was interrupted by the shrill sound of terrified screeches, coming from Jax.

You both looked at each other and sprinted back to the camp, only to see Jax sitting on his butt with no danger present.

"What the hell happened?!" You asked your palisman. He screeched a few times, and nodded his head over to a tree branch that had water continuously dripping down it.

"Seriously. You can fly, get up and do it yourself, dude." You said with annoyance.

"What did he need?" Hunter asked, not having the ability to understand him.

"There was water dripping off of a tree branch and the sound was bothering him." You rolled your eyes and used magic to freeze the water running down it.

"I'm bored." Hunter said blatantly.

"Yeah, me too. Whadya wanna do?" You asked.

"Hmm, I don't know" He replied, turning around to look at something. You got an idea, and balled up some snow in your hand. You both kept sneak attacking the other, and now it was your turn again.

You threw the snowball at his back, and he quickly curled his hands into fists. You thought he was angry, so you backed up quickly. "Sorry, you said you were bored so I thought.. I don't know. I'm sorry." You panicked a bit, worried about his anger, and what it might bring.

To your surprise however, he turned around with a questioning look on his face. "Why are you so scared?" He asked with concern. You looked around frantically before looking back to him.

"Who- me? Scared? I'm not scared! No way." you stated.

Hunter raised an eyebrow and looked at you suspiciously. "Wanna go get another griffin egg?" He asked randomly.
