Chapter 14 - In The Fear Of Darkness

-Third Person P.O.V. -

Kaika shakes her head and whispers under her breath: "I should have known that she would do something like this, typical Emiko."

-Meanwhile-

Emiko walks back to Rin smiling triumphantly.

Rin: "Did it work?"

Emiko nods: "Sure did, I'm honestly a bit suprised she fell for it."

Rin smiles grabbing Emiko and pulling her into a hug: "Maybe deep down she knew but she just wanted it to happen."

-Back to the Roller Coaster-

Sebastian and Kaika are stuck on the ride, and soon they enter a part of the roller coaster which is a dark tunnel when suddenly the ride stops. Kaika tries to lift up the safety rail from off of them but it's still locked, and the only way to release it is from the control panel outside. Just then, a dull beep echos throughout the ride. It sounds like an intercome that has just been turned on.

Emiko (on the intercome): "Hello ladies and gentlemen, do not worry, the ride is perfectly fine, you're just going to have..." she pauses: "a short stop."

Kaika could tell behind Emiko's voice she was smirking, and Rin and Emiko's laughter is heard echoing before the intercome cuts off again. It was so dark in the tunnel that Kaika couldn't even see Sebastian, who was sitting directly next to her. She starts to breath heavily.

Sebastian sighs and speaks coldly still trying not wanting to get any closer to her: "What's wrong now?"

Kaika looks around realizing just how dark it is, she opens her mouth to speak but then closes it not wanting to tell him the truth. She thinks to herself: I can't... I don't want to tell him I'm scared of the dark... I know it's a childish fear but... I-I can't see anything... i-it's like the walls... are closing in on me...

Sebastian closes his eyes and when he reopens them night vison replaces his normal eyesight and he can see Kaika perfectly. He lowers his eyes sympathetically as he thinks: She really is panicking... I can't.. push her away when she's like this... He sighs softly in defeat and snakes his arm around Kaika's shoulder and pulls her closer so her head's on his chest. Kaika looks up at him and though she can't see, he smiles slightly.

A bat flies through the tunnel right next to Kaika, screeching loudly causing her to jump. Kaika starts to tremble and she buries her face in Sebastian's chest, gripping his shirt tightly in her fists. Sebastian looks down at her with kind eyes and thinks: She really is adorable. He holds her tighter and rubs her back trying to soothe her.

Sebastian speaks in a warming voice: "What's wrong?"

Kaika speaks, her voice muffled as she speaks into his chest: "I-I-It's the... the..."

Sebastian finishes her sentence seeing how upset she is: "Is it the dark? Are you afraid of the dark?"

Kaika just nods in response, letting him know that he's guessed right.

Sebastian lifts her face so she is looking up at him and he leans in close so that she could see his face. They're close enough that their noses are touching.

Sebastian: "It's okay, as long as I'm here I will not let anything hurt you."

Kaika stops shaking, she looks up with shining eyes and she speaks softly: "Sebastian..."

Sebastian's thoughts: I know what will happen but... I just can't... keep pretending like the feelings aren't there....

Sebastian holds Kaika's chin in his hand and he closes his eyes and he pulls her into a gentle kiss. Kaika's eyes widen slightly in shock and then she closes them getting drawn in as her heart starts to race. She places her arms around his neck and he deepens the kiss as he puts his arms around her waist. Before they could part themselves the ride starts back up at full speed breaking the kiss.

Sebastian's thoughts: I... I kissed her...

Kaika's thoughs: He... He kissed me...

Kaika's face begins to burn and she feels as though her face is so red that she's glowing in the dark. Sebastian blushes slightly himself. He reaches for Kaika's hand, intertwining his fingers in hers and she leans her head on his shoulder.

As Kaika and Sebastian approach the end of the ride they see Rin and Emiko smiling devilishly.

Sebastian death glares Rin: "I'm going to kill you, you moron."

Rin's smile turns nervous: "B-But hey, look at you two."

Sebastian picks him up by the collar: "Do you even realize how scared she was!!"

Rin waves his hands: "H-Hey... I was only trying to help you out."

Sebastian: "What makes you think I need a moron's help!"

Kaika grabs Sebastian's arm: "I-It's okay... I'm sure it wasn't his idea anyways."

Sebastian looks irritated but drops Rin anyways.

Rin stands up and dusts himself off then smiles: "So how did it go anyways?"

Sebastian looks about ready to punch him when Emiko grabs his hand and pulls him.

Emiko: "Rin maybe you shouldn't test him, let's go on a ride together."

Rin smiles in agreement and they head off. When they're gone Kaika turns to Sebastian.

Kaika: "Sebastian... a-about that... I mean.. about our..." Her cheeks get flushed as she tries to bring up the kiss.

Sebastian: "I'm sorry for doing that, I've just been wanting to for so long, and couldn't resist the opportunity."

Kaika shakes her head: "N-N-No... you don't have to apologize. I... I enjoyed it... but what I wanted to know was...." She paused looking down.

Sebastian raises his eyebrow: "Yeah? What is it?"

Kaika looks back up: "Why you push me away sometimes... I never could understand how you really felt because you'd be so kind and take care of me... then sound like you didn't want to be anywhere near me..." There's a hint of sadness in her voice as she says the last part.

Sebastian lets out a deep breath as he looks up towards the moon: "Well..."
