A/n So I know in the beginning it says Kate never knew her dad and this chapter contradicts that and that is because i forget my own plot but i have come up with a way to explain it in the next chapter so don't worry!

The girl was too old to still believe in fairytales, and yet, she did. She didn't care what anyone said, she knew there was an adventure out there, waiting for her to find it.

The day that her adventurous spirit finally found it's fill, she began to understand why curiosity had killed the cat. The spirits and the monsters and the magic she believed in, did indeed exist, but they had brought upon her more pain than she could have ever imagined.

"Some stones are better left unturned, Sara."

Sara sat bolt upright. She was getting ready to grab Kate's sleeping form and start running again, before she realized it was a dream. He isn't here.

He might not have been there, but there was nowhere to ever truly hide from a demon. Sara would be running for the rest of her life if Sylphie's plan failed. A plan for which she had no strength left. She would never say it aloud, but Sara knew that when she had found and free'd the Wind Spirit from the Spirit Eater, she was nearly dead. The added strain of sending out her magic was draining her life again.

If there was nothing to do but run for the rest of her life, she would do it. She had to protect her baby this time. She would protect her.

As if Kate could hear her mother's ominous thoughts, she began to shift in her sleep.

"Shh, it's okay my love, we're okay," Sara lied to her daughter as she stroked a strand of hair away from her face. It was more of a comfort to herself than anything else.

"You aren't lying to her Sara." Sylphie- who was suddenly awake- and who apparently could read minds, said.

Sara couldn't help but recall all the horrible things that had happened to her in the last six years.

First, it was her son. He was killed by a man who had been possessed by the Spirit Eater.

"Why would you take him? Why would you take my baby?" Sara had sobbed while holding her motionless boy.

"You were the human who stole my pet two years ago, were you not? Humans can only learn their place through pain," the Spirit Eater had said to her through its human vessel. Once he no longer needed his puppet he... he...  She couldn't get it out of her head. Then, her husband. Wrought with grief, he was a prime target for the Spirit Eater's next victim. Four years after the death of their son, the Spirit Eater corrupted her loving husband, turning him into a monster. The same monster for which she was still struggling to outrun.

If I had just known, I could have done something to stop this sooner. Now it's too late and I'm paying the price, Sara thought.

The memories were making it hard to ever feel safe again.

"Right, I know," Sara lied again.

Four days later, the moment Sara had been praying would never happen, happened. Sylphie was out of strength and she was out of time. The Spirit Eater had caught up with them. The magic Sylphie had sent out to Jack Frost hadn't been enough, she was too weak. They were all going to pay for her mistakes.

Sara watched in horror as the Spirit Eater threw her beautiful girl against a tree and knocked her out. She could only hope that was all he had done. It would be the last thing he would ever do to her while Sara was still alive to do something about it.
