Session
~ What caused his mind to wander? ~"Sunoo–"
"Shh! They just uploaded their song."An hour into their one-on-one tutoring passed, but the ding of a notification alerted Sunoo that his favourite band had published a video. His priorities changed in an instant.
Jake's lips formed a thin line, unfazed that his friend would choose anything else over his studies. It would not surprise him if he'd pick a concert over practice at some point.
Because he is no stranger to this fellow group Sunoo idolises, he scoots closer and watches with him. Just a minute in, the two had their heads bobbing to the beat. Jake could not deny how the music was such a bop that it made him want to dance.
"Would you like me to recommend some of their songs? You seem to enjoy them."
"Yes, please– but after."
On a Saturday afternoon, Jake is helping Sunoo with Maths and English. The two that the latter despised the most led him to have no consideration for learning the subjects. How did he manage to succeed? He asks that of himself a lot.
Okay, maybe having an intelligent seatmate is a plus, but without the passing with flying colours part. He somehow scored to sit beside brainy students that never caught him in his act.
Lucky, right?
But this year is different. This year, Sunoo would like to help himself and not rely on students that have no clue someone is mooching off their work with ease. That is an easy and cheap gateway to success for now. Plus, one must have an average grade to stay on the team. The boy does not want to hear reminders of his failure yet again.
And that is why Jake is here. Ol' trusty Jake.
Oh, how Sunoo feels blessed to have him here and now.
"What will I do without you?"
He breathes out heavily as he pens the equation, pausing from the realization. It slipped right out of his mouth, but he chose to stay calm and composed, not showing how his brain was in shambles with what to say after, adding to the stressful processing in his head with the added knowledge. Was sweat dripping down his forehead? He began to worry if Jake had been weirded out by the unanticipated question.
"You would fail your Maths and English subject."
Well, that was blunt, but he is not wrong.
He flicks his pen to express his joking-like anger, hitting Jake on his lap and proceeding to focus on his paper. Sunoo may have expected him to say something cuter than that, but that would do for now.
Twenty minutes have passed...
Thirty...
Forty-five...
An hour...
Two hours...
"Okey-dokey, let's stop here."
Jake yawns, stretching as so.They have been sitting with their legs crossed with one or two bathroom breaks, which meant getting up on their feet would be a pain in the butt.
He remembers the offer he made with Jake and the promise of heading to who knows where. Could it be to the hill he frequents? The beach? The library... Erm, maybe not.
Three forty-two shows up on Sunoo's phone as he picks it up during his attempt to rise through the agony. He then decides that he and Jake should leave at four thirty. For now, watching television sounds like music to his ears. No, a break. A break sounds like music to his ears.
