I recall what it was like the first time I met her...
A wave of memories washes over him, transporting him back in time to the first time he met the love of his life. As he stands in the dark corner of the room, his left side rests against the light grey walls while his dark eyes gaze down at the numerous cars, citizens, and buildings below him.
Listening to the soft hum of the air conditioner coming from the vents above him and the soothing sound of the water cascading over the rocks into the pool from his large waterfall always seemed to bring him peace of mind on hectic days like today. As he closes his eyes and rests his forehead against the glass window, a small sigh escapes his nose.
He cannot help but wonder recently why he feels even more exhausted than usual. Every day was identical, and he never had time for himself. He must always attend business meetings and wake up early in the morning and be the last one to leave the building. Even the arguments between him and his current partner always keep him on edge and always influence him to avoid going home to her. It seems that she always nag him over the smallest of things and it tears him up inside of how angry he gets because of her pettiness.
However, he constantly reminds himself that he must take care of his loved ones. For Anna.
And his mother.
"Yeah... that's right," he murmurs to himself as he quickly pushes himself up from the wall and walks to his desk, where he sits and pulls himself closer to the table. He scanned the stacks of paper before deciding whether he would handle them himself or delegate the task to his new assistant.
"Where the hell is she anyway?" he grumbled as he placed his hand beneath his chin and pondered your location. You were always one to arrive late. He was uncertain as to whether you took the job seriously. He did not go as a result of your work. You've been able to keep him working at a prominent level due to your efforts, but why have you always been so hesitant to be around him? Do you dislike him?
The thought of you arriving late because you didn't want him in your presence caused him to scoff and roll his eyes. He would not rule it out. He observes the annoyed expressions you give him whenever he gives you an order or reprimands you for your lack of attendance. After placing your stack in a neat pile in the corner of his desk, he opens one of his drawers and reaches for one of his pens before noticing something. A photograph printed in black and white, a photograph with which he is all too familiar.
The ultrasound image, of his child.
An unreadable look comes onto his face as he stares at the image.
Before he could grab it, a few small knocks resonated against his door. Slowly closing the drawer, his deep voice speaks up.
"Come in."
The door slowly opens, and your eyes instantly meet his.
Without looking at the time he nods his head in approval at your attendance before giving you a smirk.
