The 2 days before Kaworu had to go, they'd spent together just hanging out.

The day he had to leave, they were on a call.
"I've got a little packing to do, then I'm free until 7." Kaworu was packing the rest of his things.
"Could we hang out?" Shinji asked, he wanted to see him one last time.
"Of course." Kaworu smiled to himself.
"W-want to meet at the park?" Shinji hesitantly asked.
"Sure." Kaworu replied.

And that's what they did. They met up at the park around 4.
Shinji sat on the swing. Kaworu sat next to him.
They weren't saying anything, just swinging.
A breeze blew through the park.
It felt nice as it was a hot evening.

"Shinji, I've got to go." Kaworu said as he hopped off the swing.
They'd spent a few hours talking and it was almost 6:30 now.
"O-okay.." Shinji came to a halt. He didn't want see him go.
Kaworu walked over to him and embraced him.
Shinji's face reddened.
"I'm going to miss you." Kaworu said quietly.
"I-I'll miss you too..." Shinji wanted to cry.
Kaworu released Shinji and began walking away.
Shinji felt a pain in his chest as his best friend started to go.
"I'll text you when I get there." Kaworu turned around.
Shinji simply nodded.
I doubt that he will... he'll go and forget all about me..
"I wish I could stay.." Kaworu sighed. He wasn't thrilled to leave. He wanted to keep hanging out with Shinji, he felt an urge to simply be around him.
Shinji couldn't bring himself to say that he also wished he could stay.
Kaworu left.

Shinji waved goodbye and headed home.
He was reluctant, his father was going to be pissed, Shinji wasn't supposed to stay out past 5.
Shinji stared at the front door. He slowly opened it and walked inside.
He closed the door quietly behind himself.
A few moments later, his father appeared in front of him.
His eyebrows were furrowed and his expression was serious.
"F-father..." Shinji stammered.
"Where were you?" His father stared down at him.
"With a friend.." Shinji quietly spoke, "I was saying goodbye to him..."
"You know you're not supposed to be out later than 5." His father scowled.
"I-I'm sorry.." Shinji grabbed the bottom of his shirt. He didn't look his father in the eye.
"That's all you ever say."
Shinji couldn't help it, "I.. I'm sorry..."
He stared at the floor. He heard his father take a step towards him.
Smack
Shinji's face stung. It became a little pink from the slap.
Shinji's eyes teared up.
"I don't want to see you right now. Go to your room." Shinji's father demanded.
Shinji just did as he was told. He walked past his father and hurried to his room.
He closed the door behind him and collapsed onto his bed.
He covered his head was his pillow and sobbed into the sheets.
He wanted to listen to his music, but didn't want to go get his tape recorder, so he just cried.

A few hours later, Shinji's phone buzzed.
He sniffled and pulled it out of his pocket.
It was a text from Kaworu.

I'm at my dads house now. Just arrived

Shinji stared at the message a while before responding.
How was the trip there?

Long

I bet it was.

So what's up?

Nothing really

Shinji wasn't about to tell Kaworu that his dad had hit him. He'd done a good job avoiding the topic of his father while Kaworu was with him and he didn't need him knowing anything about him now.

Shinji eventually fell asleep while messaging Kaworu.

Kaworu sat on his bed, he didn't want to unpack.
He figured Shinji had probably fell asleep so he plugged his phone into the charger and walked outside.
He sat on the porch and stared at the sky.
His dad lived in the countryside so there wasn't much light and you could see the stars well.
"I bet Shinji would like this view.." Kaworu sighed.
His heart throbbed, he didn't know why.
He'd been thinking about why he always felt so happy around Shinji and felt down when they were apart, but he hadn't figured it out yet.
It was stressing him out a little, and now that they were separated, he wasn't sure he'd be able to figure it out at all.
