Summer Meeting

When

A couple months passed. It was late fall now.
Nothing really changed.
Shinji would get up for school, text Kaworu good morning.
Head to school.
Asuka would be harrass him, Rei would quietly sit and Suzuhara and Kensuke would just be their dumb selves.
Then Shinji would go home and make dinner (only if his father planned on coming back in the evening)
If not, dinner would come later, if he even made it at all.
Shinji spent most of his time after school either studying, doing homework or messaging Kaworu.

Shinji sighed. He had his earbuds in and was listening to some music. His head was on his desk as he didn't want to study any longer, but didn't have much else to do.

He hadn't noticed that his phone had dinged a couple of times.

Shinji sat at his desk for a long while, just staring at the wall.
He was apparently pretty tired as he soon fell asleep.

Hours later Shinji opened his eyes. He sat up and rubbed the tired from them.
He stretched and yawned.
I guess I fell asleep.. I wonder what time it is..
Shinji picked his phone up and checked.
It was 4:43 in the morning.
Oh dang.. I slept a while...
He noticed that Kaworu had messaged him a bunch.
He clicked on a notification and scrolled through the texts.
Nothing out of the ordinary, though the last sent text had caught his eye.

When does winter break start for you?

Shinji stared at it and thought for a moment. He wasn't quite sure. He thought it started mid December, but didn't really know.
He'd ask Rei tomorrow at school.
He sent a text.

Sorry I fell asleep
And I'm not sure
Sorry, I'll have to ask when break starts

He plugged his phone into the charger and flicked his light off. Shinji laid on his bed.
Why did he want to know? What an odd question...
Shinji didn't sleep the rest of the night. Slightly groggy and a little bit grumpy, Shinji got ready for school.

Rei was already in class when he arrived.
He walked over to her, "Good morning Ayanami.."
She glanced up at him, "Mm.."
"So um..." Shinji stammered, "Do you know when break starts?"
Rei stared at him for a few seconds before answering, "December 6th.."
"Ah, alright.. thank you." Shinji said to her and pulled his phone out.
He walked to his seat and sat down, he pulled up his texts with Kaworu.

He put his phone back away.

It was around lunchtime when Shinji was able to check the reply.

Alrighty

Shinji stared at the message for a moment, that's all?

Why did you want to know?

It took a couple minutes for Kaworu to see the message and for him to respond.

It's my secret ;)

Shinji stared at the message, he furrowed his brows a little.
Why is it secret? I wonder...
He sat a moment longer to think.
I doubt Kaworu would give me a straight answer even if I kept asking him..
And Shinji was sure that if he kept asking about why he'd wanted to know the day break started, then Kaworu was sure to get annoyed.

Secret?
Fine, for today it can be a secret, but I wanna know sometime..

The message was responded to almost immediately.

Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough.

Shinji thought for a moment again, the faintest smile spread across his face.
But it didn't last long, lunch was ending and he had to get back to class.
Which meant he had to deal with Asuka, who'd been provoking him more than usual that afternoon.
