Chapter 14: Finishing the Job and Epilogue

Padmé was silent as the two men walked her through alleyways, never letting go of her arms. She hoped Anakin had found her phone and reported everything to the police.

She hadn't caught Dooku on her phone camera, so she doubted they would arrest him outright. Padmé didn't have any proof other than her word that Dooku had been involved.

A faint sound drew her from her thoughts. The men didn't seem to have heard, so Padmé pretended nothing happened. She hoped whatever or whoever it might be was on her side and not Dooku's.

Something thumped against the back of the men's heads, sending them silently to the ground. Padmé whirled around, ready to defend herself.

"It's just me," a familiar voice said.

"Cody, I'm so glad to see you!" Padmé lowered her fists. "What are you doing here? And where's everyone else?"

"Rex is with Ahsoka and the general, and Mr. Kenobi's keeping an eye on Rotta."

"Did Anakin find my phone?" she asked hopefully. "I was recording Dooku and Ziro, and it got knocked out of my hand."

"Let's move before these guys wake up, but I'll text him real quick." They both moved away from the unconscious men, Cody sending a short text to Anakin. His phone buzzed after a moment.

"Looks like it."

"That's a relief. Have they found Ziro or Dooku?"

"Not yet."

Turning a corner, they bumped into something.

"I guess we found him first," Cody sighed, watching Ziro turn around in surprise.

"Cody found Padmé," Anakin murmured, obviously relieved.

Ahsoka looked up as she heard a loud clang. The men from the rooftops were back. 

"We need to get out of here," she whispered hurriedly. "They'll figure out we're here any minute."

"Too late," a chilling voice said. A man leaped from the shadows, lunging straight for Anakin. They both hit the ground hard, an audible crunch heard as both Anakin's and Padmé's phones were crushed beneath the thug's weight.

"Uh oh," Rex and Ahsoka said. Rex quickly went to help Anakin, tackling the man above him. An elbow jammed into his nose and he grunted.

In a small panic, Ahsoka jumped onto the thug's back, pulling at his hair. He cried out in surprise, trying to reach behind him to throw her off. She kept a firm grip on him, briefly hesitating before deciding to bite his shoulder.

The other two men had now occupied Rex and Anakin. Beneath Ahsoka, the man spun around, desperately trying to shake her off. He rammed his back into the wall, causing her grip to loosen as all the air left her body.

She caught sight of her friends. Rex had blood streaming from his nose and Anakin had a cut above his eye, but both seemed to have gained the upper hand.

Unlike her.

Ahsoka struggled to regain her breath, forcing herself to focus as the man stalked towards her again. From her spot on the ground, she decided on the only thing she could do: she kicked out her leg, her foot connecting with his knee. The impact forced his knee to the side, making him lose his balance. His head thumped against the wall during his descent, knocking him out cold.
