Ten minutes later, Niamh is being wheeled into Angels Memorial Hospital with William following. They have immobilised Niamh as a precaution. Drs Mario Savetti and Leanne Rorish walk up to them.
'This is Niamh Corrigan. She had a seizure lasting approximately five minutes. No history of epilepsy or seizures. Seizure stopped after 10mg of lorazepam. She has trauma to the head. It's unknown whether the seizure is due to the head trauma or another cause.' Chimney starts the handover. 'We intubated on scene due to sats being down to 80.'
'Let's get her into centre stage.' Leanne states. As they wheel her into centre stage, Hen relays the rest of her vitals. William stays behind the red line out of the way. They wheel her beside a bed and line the stretcher with it. Hen unstraps her and they all hold onto the backboard. 'Over on three.' Leanne instructs. 'One. Two. three.' They transfer her onto the bed.
'This is William, her friend. He was with her when it happened. He contacted her social worker and brother on the way in.' Chimney tells the two doctors, pointing at Will.
'Thank you.' Mario nods and Chimney and Hen leave. Mario looks at Will.
'Does Niamh have any allergies?' He asks.
'No.' Will shakes her head.
'Anything we should be aware of?' Leanne questions.
'She has PTSD. Other than that she's usually healthy. She's been shot before but recovered well.' Will explains. Leanne looks at a nurse.
'Could you take William to the relative's room?' Leanne asks them and they nod. She turns her attention back to Will. 'I'' come and update you when we know more.' The nurse leads Will off to the relative's room. 'Let's get a head CT, full blood panel, and let's do a precautionary lumbar puncture.' Leanne tells Mario once Will is out of earshot.
Half an hour later, Will is sitting in the relative's room when Jim and Namoi walk in. Will stands up.
'What happened?' Namoi questions.
'She went to the kitchen and I heard a smash and a bang. I called but she didn't answer so I ran in and found her having a seizure. She banged her head on the table but I don't know whether she had the seizure because of that or whether the seizure was already happening and she banged her head when went down.' Will tells them.
'Have you heard anything?' Jim asks.
'No.' Will shakes his head. 'The doctor said they'll come and update when they know more.' He adds. 'The medics had to put a tube down her throat because her oxygen level was too low.' They all sit down.
'How long has she been here?' Jim asks Will.
'About half an hour.' Will says. 'So I assume they're running tests.'
Meanwhile, Niamh has been moved to a side room following her CT scan. Her head wound was a little deep and so she had put sutures in. She is still intubated and sedated since her oxygen levels are still low and her head CT results were not promising. Leanne and Mario are standing in the room reviewing the scan.
'I've already paged neurology, they're prepping a room in the Neuro ICU.' Mario tells Leanne. 'We're still waiting on the blood work and the lumbar puncture was clear so they want to run more tests when she's transferred.'
'Are her brother and social worker here yet?' Leanne questions.
'In the relative's room with her friend.' Mario nods.
'Let's go break the news.' Leanne says. The two doctors walk out of the room and to the relative's room. They knock on the door before walking in. As soon as they do, Will, Jim and Naomi stand up.
