The deft wrist movements
Of a skilled pianist playing a slur
The controlled, cautious footsteps
Of the seasoned, experienced tightrope walker
The glint in an eye that
Determined a smile's veracity
The emotions of gazes
The line between longing and pity
The stiffening of the body
Before giving a forced kiss
The flash of doubt on his face
Before we rode the carousel again and again
The quiet before the storm
The trace of tears in dry eyes
Subtle, subtle, too subtle.
