I had one thing on my mind when I woke up. Eddie Munson volunteered me to tutor him. The weirdest part about it all was that dad reluctantly agreed. When I got out of bed, I dressed nicer. I never wore makeup. It made me want to wear makeup.

So I stood over the sink in my bathroom, applying a thin layer of a pink eyeshadow that went nicely with the dusty rose shirt I was wearing. I brushed my hair out and pinned half of it up. My hair was naturally wavy, so the bottom half had soft curls that rested just below my shoulders. I went with a simple chap-stick that just made my lips seem a little glossier than normal.

"Good morning." Mom said.

I went straight for the orange juice she had sitting on the counter and poured myself a glass. The thought of eating made me sick. I was nervous about meeting with Eddie after school, so eating hardly seemed important right now.

"Morning."

Dad was sitting in his usual spot, reading the morning paper he had probably picked up from the market up the road. He looked over the top of the paper at me and smiled.

I knew he wouldn't say much. It will be different getting in the car to go to school. I wasn't looking forward to that conversation. But it was inevitable.

Mom threw some food on a plate and then handed it over to me. I brought it to the table with me, and despite my nervousness, I forced it down. I could hardly look at dad during breakfast. I shouldn't be this nervous. It was just a study session. I mean, what could really happen?

Dad made his rules very clear to me on our drive to school. Deep down, I knew the rules weren't for me. They were for Eddie. I'm not the one he should tell them. Dad also knew that I'd reiterate them to Eddie just because that's who he raised me to be.

I can only stay for two hours at the library.

We need to be studying.

Eddie is to keep his hands to himself.

When dad pulled into the parking lot at school, I couldn't wait to get out of the car before he could stop me and lecture me even further. I wanted to find Chrissy first. I was going to wait until I saw her at lunch. We hadn't spoken in a few days, so I wondered if I'd be bothering her.

As I walked into the school and to my locker, I heard someone calling my name. Students looked at me, but I couldn't tell who it was. So, I ignored the voice and proceeded on to gather my things.

Once I did, I turned on my heels and walked straight into the body of someone standing directly behind me. I tried to get to class on time. When I turned away from my locker, I walked into someone who seemed to block my way.

When I looked up, I saw it was Eddie who had a big old smug look on his face, like he had intended for me to walk right into him. I gripped my books tightly in my arm as I glared at him.

"Excuse me." I muttered.

"You're excused." Eddie chuckled as he stepped to the side.

I walked, expecting him to stay behind–but he didn't. He was right next to me, following me to my first class.

"Can I help you with something?" I asked.

"What would you say if I asked you to come to a band gig of mine tonight?"

"I would tell you that you were crazy and that would never happen."

"What if I asked you really nicely?"
