Standing in front of my bathroom mirror, I smoothed out the fabric of my Family Video vest. Eddie was going to be here soon. I was so excited, yet so nervous, about starting my first job. From everything Robin had told me, it was simple work. Stocking videos, taking inventory, sweeping the floor and cleaning the counters.

After making sure I looked presentable enough, I headed down into the living room. Abel was running around the couch with a cape on, yelling different superpowers out as he tried to imitate them.

"So, I have a question." I stood in front of them, rocking on my heels with my hands behind my back.

"Don't look so suspicious about it." Dad glared at me.

"What is it, honey?" Mom asked.

"So, I was thinking about something..." I muttered.

I was about to ask them something that I probably shouldn't. Dad was going to blow a gasket. It was worth a shot, though. I was going to be an adult. Plus, I was very responsible and everything I ever did showed them I was.

"Just spit it out already." Dad said.

"I was wondering if you both would consider letting me spend the night at Eddie's on Friday night's. I wouldn't want to come home and wake anyone up. We wouldn't be doing anything like what you're probably thinking." I rambled on.

Mom and Dad looked at each other.

"Absolutely not." Dad said.

"Now wait a minute, Allen. Let's talk this through." Mom stopped him.

"Eddie's Uncle Wayne would be there the entire time. He's off on Friday's and Saturday's." I added.

"Where would you sleep?" Dad asked.

"We'd both sleep in his bed. Fully clothed."

"How do we know you're telling us the truth?" Mom asked.

"Because I'm still fully committed to saving myself for marriage, and Eddie respects that. You guys trust me, don't you?"

"Of course we do." Mom said, "You two only just started dating. I'm not so sure either of you is ready for that."

"Didn't you and dad ever spend the night together before you got married?" I asked.

"Yes," Dad nodded, "And I know exactly what thoughts I had those nights too. I promised myself for marriage. Those temptations were still there."

"Eddie isn't like that though, dad. He has never made me feel pressured to do anything with him." I said.

"Well, think about it this way, Allen. She is responsible enough to talk to us about this. She could sneak out and do it without us knowing." Mom said.

Moments like this really made me love mom more than I already do. She has always been in my corner. Especially with keeping dad in line about him. I know she had concerns of her own. I appreciated that more than anything. How could I live my life if they never let me experience these things?

"I guess you're right..." Dad sighed. "I think that will be okay. But you're to go straight to Eddie's after work, and if I ever find out that you two are doing anything other than just spending time together, you will never step foot in there again."

I could have jumped with excitement. I didn't think either of them was going to go for that at all. Heck, Eddie didn't even know what I was doing. I just wanted to throw it out there and see what would happen if something like that were to arise.
