Harper jumped from the noise of the shatter.
The boy pulled away and leaned his head against hers.

"We shouldn't be doing this." She tried to step back, but the desk was still blocking her in.
"We shouldn't." He repeated and leaned down to kiss her collarbone.

Sure, she wanted to continue whatever this was,
but it was like someone else was there in the shadows.

"I can't!" She pushed past him and ran out of his room.

The time was 4:32pm.
It was only around two hours ago Harper was in Enoch's room and extremely close to him.

She knew someone other than them was in the room, but who?

She began to rule out everyone in the house.

She was at the last two.
Olive and Millard.

Olive was quite obviously jealous every time she saw Harper and Enoch together.

But why watch them make out? There was no point in that.

Millard.
He is invisible, so he has a pretty good advantage; but what would his motive be?

He was acting pretty weird earlier.
It was a long shot, but there was no harm in asking.

"Millard?"
She approached the boy who was kicking the football in Hugh's face.
"Yes?" Millard turned his full attention to her.
"Can I talk to you?" She pointed to a clearing in the backyard.
Millard nodded and walked with her.

"How can I help you?"
He seemed nervous.
His body movement was off along with his tone.
Not the nervous he was before, but more awkward and uncomfortable.

"Did you happen to you to Enoch's room earlier?"
She could hear his gulp from a mile away.
"No. I haven't been to Enoch's room in ages."

It was obvious he was lying.

"You sure?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, Harper."
"Right."

And with that, he ran to his friends.

As long as he wouldn't tell anybody.

5:00pm.
It was almost time for dinner.

She hadn't heard from her friend Rory in ages so she decided to go check on her.

"Hey." She knocked and opened the bedroom door.
She heard them gasp and pull apart.
Not quick enough.

"Oh my god."
She looked disgusted as Rory and Jj were previously snogging.

"We aren't!" Rory raised her voice.
"What the hell?" Harper actually laughed from the no surprise.

"Hell?"
Rory looked more shocked than before.
"Figment of speech..."
Harper closed the room door and quickly ran downstairs for dinner.

Rory and Jj walked in around five minutes later than everybody else.

"Florence. Jayden. What took you guys so long?"
Miss Peregrine asked as she tore up the chicken with her bare hands.

"Nothing. Nothing." They both said at the same time and then quickly apologised to each other.
"What's the matter? Tongue tied?"
Harper laughed a little.

Some strange glances were passed around the table, but the two just shook them off.

"Where's Enoch?" Miss Peregrine asked.
"He hasn't come out of his room all afternoon, Miss. He seems angry." Bronwyn implied.

"Thank you, Bronwyn."
The lady stood up and began to walk out of the room and up the stairs.

"So... What took you guys so long?" Harper raised an eyebrow and smirked at the pair.
"Jj was helping me paint."

"I thought you gave up painting because you were awful?" Hugh said bluntly.
"I thought your paintings were quite exceptional." Horace gave a smile and continued to eat his food.

"Thank you, Horace."
"Were you working on the osculation?" Harper asked.

"What's osculation?"
The children began to wonder and ask.
"Check the dictionary."
Rory kicked Harper's leg under the table.

"Children! Tone it down a little." Miss Peregrine and Enoch walked into the dining room.

Enoch hesitantly took the last seat that happened to be beside Harper.

"Hi-"
Enoch cut the girl off by turning away and striking up a conversation with Olive.

Harper stared at the boy for two minutes before realising he wasn't going to speak to her.

She let out a sigh louder than expected.
A few people looked over.

"Is everything alright, Harper?"
Miss Peregrine asked the girl.
"Hmm? Oh, right. I'm fine."
"You don't look fine." Said, Hugh.

"Thank you for that statement, Hugh." She glared at the child.

"She's fine. In fact,
She's usually the one making others feel not so fine." Enoch chimed in.

Everyone turned to look at him, confused.

"What? Did she steal one of your dolls?"
Rory laughed at her own joke.
"homunculus." His stern tone corrected the girl.

"Did she break your tiny heart?"
Rory said in a baby voice, making everyone laugh.
"Shut up!" He slammed his fork and knife down.

"Rory! Enoch! Enough!" Miss Peregrine raised her voice.

The two crossed their arms and huffed.

"Are Enoch and Harper in love?" Claire asked.
"What? No! God, no." He looked disgusted.
The girl and her friend Bronwyn turned to Harper.

"Of course, we aren't. That's completely absurd." She didn't sound defensive like Enoch.
She sounded sadder.

"I would never be in love with someone like her."

She never liked him, but those words still cut deeper than a knife ever could.

"Excuse me."
She stood up and quickly walked away.
