Waking up the next morning I get dressed for my doctor's appointment. I put on some Levi shorts, praying the cast will come off today. Shorts would be easier for getting the cast cut off. I throw on a black T-shirt keeping the outfit simple today. I put on my one shoe; while grabbing the other shoe, in hopes of this thing not being on my leg after this appointment.
I come out of the room and head out to the living room. Conrad is sitting on the couch, he's wearing a button up long sleeve blue dress shirt, and slacks.
"Grandpa, aren't you going to get hot in that?" I find it weird that Conrad always dresses so nice. I hardly see him in jeans, shorts, or T-shirts. I understand him dressing nice for school, but come on we are just going to the doctor's.
"Maybe a little, but when was the last time you saw me in shorts and a T-shirt?" Conrad gestures to my outfit.
"Ummm, never." I look at him perplexed by his question.
"Exactly. Are you ready?" Conrad twirls the keys on his finger.
"Yeah I'm ready, let's go." I grab my other shoe in my hand as we head out the cabin. We climb into Conrad's truck.
"You really aren't going to bring your crutches?" Conrad questions me as he starts the truck.
"What's the point? The whole time I have had the crutches how often have you seen me use them?" I stare out the window. Conrad pulls the truck out and begins driving to town.
"You couldn't even make it through the first 24 hours of having a cast. Then you just gave up on them." He keeps his eyes on the road making his way to the doctor's office.
"Exactly grandpa!" I point my fingers him in a joking manner.
Conrad laughs and pulls into the parking lot of the doctor's office.
We get out of the truck, Conrad suggests for me to leave the shoe in the truck just in case I have to get another cast. So I unhappily leave the shoe and we head inside the building together.
"Welcome what can I do for you?" The receptionist smiles at us as we make our way to her desk.
"My granddaughter has an appointment today." Conrad smiles back and places a hand on my shoulder.
"Name?" The receptionist looks up over her glasses.
"Annalise Rivera."
"Yes the doctor will see you in a minute. The waiting room is right around the corner." The woman points in the direction of it.
Conrad thanks her, and we head around the corner. We both take a seat in a chair, waiting for the doctor to call my name.
"My last name is not Rivera." I whisper to Conrad.
"Yes but Jaclyn couldn't use your last name for obvious reasons, she also couldn't use her last name for again obvious reasons." Conrad whispers in my ear.
"Because I'm a missing kid and she is wanted for kidnapping." I say what he doesn't want to vocalize out loud. I cross my arms across my chest.
"Shhhhh and yes. So she used my last name when making the appointment. So you're a Rivera for the next hour or so." Conrad pats my leg.
"So whenever any of us kids have an appointment, like a doctor appointment or a dentist appointment we will be a Rivera?" I raise an eyebrow at him.
"Yes Annalise okay." He grabs a magazine from the small table, hinting at me to stop talking.
I look around the waiting room, a teen boy who looks to be about my age comes and sits next to me, his mother sits on the other side of him.
"What happened to you?" The teen points to my foot.
