Chpt 24: The Hub

We all got into Jakes car and to say i was anxious would be an understatement. The last time i was in this car was when i hurt my head. And not to mention Max Mayfield aka a 13 year old girl was driving.

I'd rather her than me though. I've taken three driving tests. I've failed them all. No one knows, but i've failed them on purpose. I never want to have anyone's life in my hands while i'm driving. Not after Liz.

I know it was stupid, but apparently Max has practiced a lot in a parking lot so. We all tried to squish in as Steve's head was still on my lap. Dustin had an ice pack against his head while his body laid lifeless as his legs dangled on the floor.

Surprisingly enough, Max was a decent driver. A couple of bad turns but other than that... Better than me. Lucas was reading her the directions to the hub.

As we were driving, i felt Steve's head begin to move. I looked down to see his eyes slowly opening. "Nancy?" he mumbled as he looked at Mike. He gave him an odd look as Steve looked up.

"Joy?" he asked. "Hey" i said with a soft smile. He groaned as he touched his head. "No, don't touch it" Dustin said moving his hand.

"Hey buddy. It's okay you put up a good fight. He kicked your ass and Joy had to finish him off, but you put up a good fight."

Steve slowly tried to lift his head up as he looked at Lucas who was calling out directions. "What's going on?" he mumbled looking at Max. "Oh my god!" he exclaimed seeing her drive.

"It's okay she's driven before" Dustin said. "Yeah in a parking lot" Mike snapped. "That counts!" Lucas said. "They we're going to leave you behind. I said you'd be cool with it" i said.

"Oh my god" he exclaimed again. He grabbed the back of the seat and pulled himself up. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait. What's going on?" he shouted. Max sped up as he continued to freak out.

I clutched onto Steve's shoulder as the car sped up more and more. "Oh my god! No! Stop the car. Stop the car!" he shouted. "I told you he'd freak out!" Mike exclaimed in my face.

I closed my eyes and tried not to think about how fast the car was going. "Everybody shut up! I'm trying to focus!" Max shouted.

"Oh, wait, that's Mount Sinai! Make a left!" Lucas shouted. "What?!" Max exclaimed. "Make a left!" he shouted. Max swerved the car and crashed through the gate.

"Oh my god" i mumbled. The tired screeched as we all screamed. Max stopped the car suddenly as we were at the hub. I took a deep breath as everyone hopped out of the car to grab the supplies.

Steve fell out of the car as i tried to help him up. He pushed my hand away. "Are you kidding me!? You let her drive?! She's four?!" he exclaimed. "I don't know why you're yelling at me! She's the only one of us who could drive!" i shouted back.

"What about you, huh?" he shouted. I bit my tongue. "I wasn't letting anyone's death on my hands because of a damn car again" i mumbled. His angry persona faded away. He nodded as he faced Dustin.

His anger came back right away, just not at me. "Guys!" he shouted. He fell against the car as he he could barley stand. All the kids began suiting up and grabbed all the gear. "Where do you think your going?" he asked.

They all ignored him. "What are you deaf?! Hello! We're not going down there i made myself clear!" Steve shouted. They all still ignored him. "There is not chance in hell we are going down that hole, all right?"

"This ends now!" Steve said grabbing the baseball bat off of Dustin. "Steve! Your upset i get it. But the bottom line is, a party member requires assistance. And it is our duty to provide that assistance" Dustin said.
