"When the water is clearer and the sky bright again. That's a quote from you, but I don't know if the situation we're in totally fits that. Maybe it was just a foolish teenage love, or perhaps some feelings still linger, I don't know. We drifted apart, Violet." (Y/N)'s words pierced through the thick air amidst the two of them, to which the pink-haired girl just nodded in silence, rethinking her actions.
"Yeah, you're right." She soon opened her mouth to speak her mind. She didn't like the fact that what her friend was saying was true, yet there was nothing that could have been done about it at this point. Years of hidden confinement were bound to make this happen, but if they drifted apart like capsizing waves born anew in the cold winter, all she could do was just get closer.
She had only realized how much she needed and loved certain people only after they were long gone, and even after so many years, she didn't want it to happen again.
It was a road towards a blooming relationship, pure fate.
. . .
"You're crazy. A total madwoman." (Y/N) broke the dominant silence that had been going on since their last conversation at her mansion as she finally caught up to the pink-haired girl that was admiring her city from a thick pipe hanging well above the ground.
"I think it's you that's gotten a little rusty over the years without me. Do you need help getting down, my lady?" Vi smirked as she quickly descended and placed her feet on the ground, ready to catch her if necessary. (Y/N) took it easy, as technically she was still off-duty, and in fact, had been for a few days now, but by the time her eyes glanced down for the savior of her upcoming fall, Violet had already got herself a new jacket from some street punk. Their eyes met as (Y/N) slid down the roof right into Vi's sturdy hands, and the two of them held onto each other for a bit longer before breaking contact.
The two flashed each other a warm smile as they headed for the street. (Y/N) let Vi lead her through the new sights of the Undercity she once knew as another, yet her eyes gleamed at the still familiar shops and creatures all around. The pink-haired girl initiated contact and their hands linked as she dragged (Y/N) to a place her eyes were planted to for several seconds.
"Just the usual." Violet spoke with a smirk as she sat on the old creaky chair, leaning on the counter meant to serve the customers on. (Y/N) followed through, and as they removed their hoods for their faces to be more visible the giant creature gleamed with joy, instantly going to the kitchen part of the shop to serve them a warm meal.
The cook was Jericho, a well-known acquaintance of theirs. They used to eat there all the time when they were younger, and since (Y/N) became an enforcer and kept visiting, she had eaten there a couple of times. The surprise was Vi, not (Y/N). The (h/c)-haired girl had revealed to him countless times that she was in search of all of them but never had he thought that the day in which she would find any of them would ever come.
He quickly placed a big bowl of the usual seafood and meat she used to order on the counter as (Y/N) refrained from ordering.
"Haven't you eaten your fill at my house already?" She mocked as Violet messily dug in with her hands. She didn't bother to answer though, the familiar taste blissfully melting in her mouth.
(Y/N) laughed at the girl's voracious appetite, yet something suddenly caught her attention in the corner of her keen eyes. She swiftly motioned to Jericho as she threw coins on the table and he returned one single napkin she shamelessly shoved into Vi's pocket.
"Don't look at them, don't fight them, and don't follow me. We'll meet soon enough at our place." (Y/N) whispered into her ear, sending shivers down her spine along with the spontaneous click of a gun she heard so earnestly. Vi's ears perked up at this, yet she decided to remain as stiff as she could be for her sake.
The girl's chair creaked as it dragged on the cold floor and her steps were becoming faint as time went by. Her steps were accompanied by three more pairs and they quickly transformed into running.
The cold, yet stale air of the Undercity flew through her hair as she was running presumably for her life, sudden shortness of breath quickly taking over her. Her efforts to escape the three men were meaningless. With one large motion of her hand, she raised it to the sky with the visibly loaded gun.
A loud warning shot echoed through the mainly secluded street.
Laughter emerged from behind though, as the path she was running toward was nothing more than a dead end. She got tackled to the ground as soon as she reached the end of the narrow alleyway, and dust came flying in all directions.
"This might finally be your last day, little lady." One of the men equipped with a metal rod spoke with a scratchy voice and a smirk on his face.
"How many times have I heard that already?" She raised her head from the ground, strands of her (h/c)-hair covering her eyes.
"How about we assure you that this is the last time?" The one pinning her down grinned inexplicably with malicious intent whilst licking his cracked lips, a sight that almost made (Y/N)'s stomach turn as he pressed himself onto her body.
"I see, so that's what you really want." Her pretty lips turned into a witty smirk as his hands got softer and she managed to turn around. Her gaze alone was enough to make them go weak.
"Maybe we shouldn't kill her anymore. Let's hide her for ourselves."
"Such smart words, truly. Who's first in line then?" A giggle escaped her mouth as one of the men's faces got closer and she grabbed his chin with one of her hands.
"So gullible." She turned her face away as her other hand rose from behind and shot him in the head while still grabbing his face. His two accomplices quickly followed the same path.
She looked at the bodies in utter disgust as she fled the scene, heading towards her next destination, the place where she first painted Vi.
The place was close enough to The Last Drop, their former home, and it was also a place with a great view of the troubled Undercity. The girl quickly climbed the path as she remembered it from years ago and waited while gazing at the dystopian paradise.
Although she passed by quite often because of her heartfelt job, she never even had the time to realize how much everything changed without her noticing. Her eyes drifted from one place to another, along with dear memories she made long ago.
What caught her eye though was the commotion happening not too far away from her location. Fights in the Undercity surely aren't uncommon, yet the fiery nature of the fight and the pink hair of the girl involved couldn't go unnoticed by (Y/N).
It was Vi for sure.
She quickly got on her feet and started running towards the site of the fight as the dust settled down.
"What did you do to my sister?! Where's he keeping her?!" Desperate shouts dispersed throughout the empty street.
"Keeping her? She's working for him. She's like his daughter." A sly voice answered back as (Y/N)'s legs slowly started to give up from the constant running.
"I'll give her your regards." A smirk spread over her face as she impaled the pink-haired girl's abdomen with her cyborg hand, leaving the girl crawling away to safety like a helpless ant.
A single, not-so-distant shot was soon then heard.
