"I know it's hard, but keep up. They're going to catch up to us in no time." A familiar voice whispered after countless minutes of sheer silence, its vibrations reaching only Violet's ear, startling her, as she barely managed to stay conscious at this point in their journey. Her feet idly dragged along the dirt as (Y/N)'s body supported her weight, blood still dripping from the wound she held onto so dearly. She truly hoped the stinging pain would at least keep her awake for a little longer, as this was no place to fall just yet.
Time was of the essence.
"The hell is that?" Vi's mouth cracked open, mumbling under her breath at the sight of a giant purple sign in the shape of an eye, one she had never seen before, and honestly, she wished she never did.
"I wouldn't know, enforcers don't get sent all the way here." The woman shook her head as her companion led her closer to the rim of the ledge, taking in the grim scenery of the unknown below with shimmering eyes.
Their bodies soon departed from one another, and with only a brief moment of eye contact serving as a warning, Violet dove down into the foggy darkness all by herself, landing from pipe to pipe until (Y/N) couldn't see her anymore. Her eyes widened, yet she couldn't call for the pink-haired girl, and as scared and shocked as she was, she couldn't even let her be and go on her way. Her hair swept from side to side as she glanced at the edge of the seemingly neverending fracture in which her friend vanished without a trace, yet that was no stopping ground.
With one deep breath, she jumped onto the nearest pipe as steps were drawing closer and closer. Her descent continued down the unstable structure the massive sign truly provided, and her figure ultimately fell with a loud thud while she was nearing the end of it, yet that was no stopping ground either. She had to find Violet quickly, as she was in no position to be moving freely with such an open injury.
Her eyes roamed around the area, yet all she could see was darkness all around, and a few indistinguishable scrawny figures nearing closer. One particular physique caught her eye though. It was a woman hunched over in a pool of blood, and upon closer inspection, she was identified as Vi.
"I could've carried you, but nevermind. Where to now?" (Y/N)'s voice echoed through the prevalent emptiness of the place as she neared her body to Vi's to assist her in their short walk to the next location as per her request, the abandoned inside of the building the sign was built on top of.
"So what exactly is this place? I've only ever heard about something like this." The (h/c)-haired girl started wandering around the cramped space as soon as she let go of Vi for a quick rest, yet Vi was in no mood for chit-chat.
The adrenaline washed over her, and her vision became blurry once again. She broke out in cold sweat as her ears rang continuously. Every word that came out of (Y/N)'s mouth felt like the annoying buzzing of a bee, and her figure appeared different. It was as if little Powder was there in the room instead of (Y/N). Violet's head started to hurt and her heart beat out of her chest as her sister seemed to make an appearance everywhere she looked. She just couldn't escape, and guilt took over.
"Hey, do you hear me? I've been asking questions all of this time but you seem out of it. Are you okay?" (Y/N) approached the bed she was laying on, examining her wound once again, but as she ought to touch the vicinity of it, her hand got slapped immediately. Her eyes slowly rose to look at Violet's, yet they avoided contact no matter what. It was shame, sorrow, or the constant hallucinations that didn't allow her to face her counterpart. She remained silent no matter the prolonged gaze at her.
"Sorry about that, I bet it hurt. Got any idea where I can find something to stop the bleeding in here?" The girl kept staring with her (e/c) eyes, and Violet could feel them piercing through her skull. She ultimately sighed and opened her mouth to speak after a few moments of tactical hesitation on her part.
"There's still time to go back to your regular life, you know? There's no need for you to do all of this, cupcake. If I were in your place I would be ready to kill to get out of this situation and live a normal life, yet you delve deeper into it." Vi slowly came back to her senses, her thoughts less muddy than before, yet her body still felt light as a feather. She was still not herself, and both of them knew that all too well.
"You would kill? And I would die, so do it, but before that, I'll tell you a secret. You can't kill me and you can't send me away either. That's because you still like me, or maybe even love me, but that's up to you." (Y/N)'s words pierced like bullets through her heart, yet she knew deep inside that she was right. Her expression gave it away firsthand, her eyebrows furrowed.
"I do, but you don't, that's why this will never work out. I'm sorry that everything changed, and I don't know whose fault this is, but I miss the old times. I miss the friendship we used to have." Violet's voice cracked, getting further and further away from the world, her consciousness but a few steps away from vanishing in thin air.
"You're right." Her figure slowly approached the door, yet as her mouth opened to continue the sentence, the other woman was already embraced by a deep slumber she so craved, hearing only the bitter side of it in the end.
"That was a lie, and it would be a lie again if I told you that our relationship meant nothing to me." She sighed, realizing that it was already too late. Her hand touched the dusty doorknob by now, opening her mouth one last time to speak to her, even if she no longer heard or made any sense of it.
"I'm sorry Violet..."
