Active chatter emerged from behind the door of the basement of the Last Drop, the door on which an aggravated Violet leaned, her eyes all puffy and red. Marks from earlier tears could be seen very clearly on her fair complexion, and a pained expression quickly spread over her face once again as she reminisced today's happenings.
Her mind was blurry, fragments of each event overriding each other. All she could see was Vander, an old wooden door which she kept banging on for dear life, a small window gushing with fresh blood, and a little boy crying in distress who was Ekko, all of which happened right after she got back from the little visit she paid (Y/N). The bodies at the scene were horrendous, reoccurring images in her head, one of which she identified as the enforcer that brought (Y/N) into the Undercity on several occasions, and the woman she had suspected that Vander was working with concerning the plan they shared a vision on.
She shook her head in disbelief and opened the room with a sigh, hastily going down the stairs, to which Powder quickly came up and hugged her close with a genuine smile. Vi's breathing quickly became shaky though, and tears started forming in the corners of her ashy eyes as she gazed upon her little sister's innocent and happy face. Disregarding everything happening around her, she headed towards a pair of familiar gauntlets to take, yet her hand was quickly stopped by Mylo's.
"Wait a minute, those are Vander's. What's going on?" He quickly let go of her arm, pushing all the attention of those present to the visibly troubled pink-haired girl.
"Benzo's dead." She declared with a defeated face, not making direct eye contact with her peers just yet. Her eyes were instead focused on the cold, wooden floor, her mind still piecing itself together.
"Dead?" Claggor mumbled under his breath at a loss of words, waiting for the girl to further elaborate, which she quickly did after a few moments of silence.
"They took Vander. I need to help him. I need to get him back." She slowly leaned toward the coffee table to finally take the gauntlets and place them in a large bag she would take along on her way.
"We're going with you."
"Whatever killed Benzo was like nothing I've ever seen. It tore him apart..." She clenched her fist which soon covered her face as the girl broke down, comforting words being thrown around soon enough. She quickly calmed down though and placed all of the weapons the boys had prepared on the table in the large bag.
"Do you know where they took him?" Mylo asked as they all headed for the stairs, but Vi stopped in her tracks with a heavy sigh when Powder approached them with a gleeful face.
"You're not coming this time, Powder. It's too dangerous." She approached the young girl and quickly brought out the book that she had borrowed from (Y/N) earlier that same day.
"I'm not scared. Families stick together, you said it yourself, so why can't I come?"
"You're not ready!" Violet harshly lashed at the blue-haired girl, making her flinch before she regained her composition and lovingly touched her cheek to calm her down.
"You're all I have left. I can't lose you." She offered her the engineering and mechanics book along with a colored smoke bomb as the little girl shed a singular tear that slowly rolled down her cheek.
"This is a gift from (Y/N), as for this... If they come for you, take it and run. Light it up, and I'll find you, wherever you are. I promise." She spoke with certain haste in her words as they shared a few moments in each other's familiar presence.
With one last look at her little sister, they stormed off into the unknown.
. . .
Loud, ominous thuds were heard as the three children stepped on the old, rusty roof of the cannery, actively trying to find a way in without alarming the ones that would be guarding the place right underneath.
"Let's get Vander and get out of here." Vi stated as her eyes glanced to a possible entrance into the building, jumping right in, with the two boys trailing after her soon enough.
The inside of the building, although broken and bathed in the moonlight sustained only darkness all around, enough for them to not be seen with the naked eye as they broke in. Light taps on the cold ground were the only things heard all over the building as the three crouched kids stepped around, looking for a certain someone.
One bridge in particular caught the attention of their keen eyes, a bridge that led to a green-hued room with a way too familiar man strapped down to a chair to which they discreetly rushed.
"Vi? What are you doing here?" He opened his tired eyes and spoke in awe as little blood dripped out of his mouth. He was soon shut off by a sudden hug given by the girl, her face pained and her eyes sorrowful.
"We're breaking you out." She shortly departed from him, letting Mylo do his job with the locks as she carefully examined the room's composure.
"How did you get in? There's guards everywhere." He asked anxiously, his words all over the place, and his emotions even messier at that point.
"It was easy. We just found an open window and..." She explained, yet with the seconds passing her expression aggravated as if a huge realization hit her then and there. She shook her head though, ignoring the sudden eerie feeling.
"Oh god. You have to get out of here. Now!"
"Welcome!" A foreign voice echoed through the cannery, shamelessly interrupting Vander and greeting the newcomers. The kids stopped in their tracks, startled by the unfamiliar presence. Moreover, it meant that they got caught red-handed.
Peace was no longer an option.
