Akros awoke again, stumbling onto his feet. His mind was groggy, so much so that it took him several moments to become alert again. When he came to his senses, he found himself in a massive volcanic area. Black rock spikes jutted out of the ground at random, and there were several active volcanoes. He found it similar to the Abyss, which made him a little more comfortable. The air was dark with ash, but Akros could see just fine. In front of him was a thin, tall man -no, the aura coming off of him was demonic- in a red suit and wore circular glasses. A metallic tail with spikes at its end lay behind him. He had black hair slicked back, and a confident smirk.
Akros cursed his own luck. He could sense the magic power pouring off this demon, it was far more powerful than he was currently. He kneeled in front of the demonic human, bowing his head. As a weaker demon, he must submit to his summoner, otherwise he risked being killed or worse.
"Your excellency, how may this lowly demon serve you?" Akros said smoothly, hiding his inner anxiety under a calm mask. The man laughed genuinely.
"Good, you seem to know when you're outclassed. All the other demons I've summoned to this point have been ferociously indignant, so I had to kill them all. Your obedience has put me under a good mood, so I won't hold you under demon contract. After all, there is no need to given the high magical state of this world."
"You have my deepest gratitude, your excellency," Akros inwardly sighed in relief. He was luckier than he thought after all. He didn't like having to submit but it was better than being a slave under contract.
"Please, no more of that. My name is Demiurge, Guardian to the 7th floor of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. You are sufficiently strong, so I will stop my summoning here and ask Lord Ainz to assign you an occupation. I expect that you respect our Lord and this holy tomb, demon. Otherwise there will be consequences."
"Understood, Lord Demiurge." Akros was stunned, so badly that he could only force out those words. He had transported to the world of Overlord, an anime he once watched! He knew a little bit about the world, but this new reality may not have been what it was in the anime. For now, he could assume nothing, and simply follow orders. He didn't know how strong this world's fighters were, much less the forces within the Great Tomb of Nazarick. The better he behaved, the better he would be treated, he thought.
However, he didn't fail to notice Demiurge mention occupation. Perhaps Demiurge thought Akros was a vital unit?
Demiurge placed a hand on Akros' shoulder and teleported them out of the dark chamber. After a quick flash of light, Akros found himself in a grand hall, with decorated pillars on each side that had banners with emblems he did not recognize. In the middle of the hall was a red carpet leading to a throne with the biggest back he had ever seen. Sitting upon the throne was a lich, dressed in black and purple robes adorned with metallic shoulder plates. In the lich's left hand was a golden staff, twisting and bending in an odd way. The top of the staff looked similar to a crown, with 7 different colored jewels in the mouths of snakes.
Akros immediately recognized this lich as Momonga, a human turned supreme being after being trapped in his favorite video game. He and Akros were not so different, having both been reincarnated into a inhuman body.
Beside Momomga was a beautiful woman with raven black hair, horns curving from her temples to her forehead, and black feathered wings. Akros recognized her as Albedo, the succubus who was madly in love with Momonga. Other figures stood nearby the throne: two dark elves, a beetle like warrior, a cute vampire girl, and an old butler.
Normally one would be confused by this odd group, but Akros knew better. These were all powerful fighters, the guardians of the tomb floors. Each of them would be able to kill him easily, he estimated. What use was a being of his power to the likes of Momonga? Akros was getting cold feet, forgetting one crucial thing about Momonga: the lich had no idea what he was doing most of the time.
