BRANDY walked up to Nancy Wheeler a small smile on her face. "Hey," She greeted

"Hey, I thought I was picking you up?" Nancy questioned, furrowing her brows.

"Sorry, I probably should've asked if it was okay to just show up, I just didn't really feel up to driving." Brandy explained, holding her breath, waiting for any negative emotion from Nancy.

"No, no." Nancy shook her head, her eyes sliding to the whit van pulling out of their driveway. "It's okay," She looked back to Brandy. "Saves the gas money I guess, do you have any clothes?"

"Shit!" The curly blonde threw a hand to her forehead. "I completely forgot about that."

"It's okay, you can borrow some of mine," Nancy nodded. Brandy gave her an unusual and unbelieving look as she looked between the two, and the sheer difference in their sizes. Sure Brandy could probably fit into Nancy's shirts and shoes but certainly not her pants. They would be too tight and a tad too long on her. "We'll find something that'll fit." Nancy said once she saw the girl's expression.

"Nancy! Come set the table please!" There was a voice from inside.

"Coming!" She called back. Brandy followed Nancy into the home. It smelled like home-cooked food and oddly enough laundry detergent. It was nice and cozy, a small blonde child with pigtails ran past Nancy and Brandy, nearly knocking into them as she hurried up the blue carpeted stairs.

"Be careful Holly!" a woman with blonde permed hair called as she exited the kitchen, "Oh!" She said once she saw Brandy standing there. "I didn't know you were coming over so soon, I'm Karen." She stuck her hand out.

"Brandy Leblanc," Brandy introduced.

"Hope you girls don't mind helping me set the table, Mike seems to have run away from me before I can put him to work again." Mrs. Wheeler let out a frustrated breath that she masked with a laugh.

"Sure," Brandy nodded, following Nancy.

"The plates are up there," The other girl pointed to the cabinets. "Careful, I think Mike put up the dishes last, so they might be in there kind of wonky."

"I wish a had siblings," Brandy admitted as she began grabbing plates. The dishes themselves were off white in color, mustard yellow rings painted onto the outside with red and orange flowers in the center.

"I mean, I wouldn't trade Mike or Holly for the world. But sometimes I think being an only child would've been nice." Nancy confessed as she filled up the glasses with ice. "Just kind of wonder what it's like sometimes, just having both your parent's attention."

Brandy pursed her lips, she wanted to tell her that it was great, amazing even. But it wasn't, not at least how Brandy saw it. Sure it was wonderful when she was younger, both your parents gave you undivided attention when you desired it. Until one parent leaves, rather that be of their own volition or the universe ripping them from you. Then it's only desolate and cold. One parent is suddenly working so much they have no time for you, just trying to keep up with the money that was lost.

"Honestly?" Brandy began, keeping her head down as she gently placed the plates on the table. "It's kind of lonely." the blonde admitted. "You don't get as much one-on-one as you think, and when you do suddenly they're very interested in everything you do."

"Really?" Nancy hummed.

"Yeah," She nodded. "Who you hang out with, what you do after school, if you're dating anyone or might want to, needing to know where you are all the time." Brandy named off, "Maybe all parents are like that, I wouldn't know, but I feel like if there were more people to keep up with, maybe I'd get away with things like going to parties or going out to eat after school without being grilled when I got home."
