HIS lOVE MY DESTRUCTION

Chapter 16: I DIDN'T DO IT.

Hearing Abie's appreciation, I gained some strength and sat on my bed. He was extremely happy that day and I didn't want to spoil his mood of happiness. I decided to keep what his mother said to me for myself.

Two weeks later, my father-in-law called for me.

***Mr John***
"I know last time you heard me though you were still weak and unwell to respond to me.
Whatever you heard that day was right and if you didn't hear anything, I can pardon for you everything I said that day.
I remember I made you a promise to surprise you once you get well and here you are. Prepare yourself for your surprise tomorrow."

Hearing all he said, I remembered Mrs Magie's words, she warned me not to accept the surprise from her husband.
"No!" I spoke loud.
"What do you mean by no? Don't you want my surprise. I can understand dear. I am not giving you this surprise so that you can forgive me. I am doing this because you deserve it my dear." He said.
His words made me weak and left me with no choice but to accept his surprise.
"But what's that surprise sir?" I asked.
"I won't tell you because it's a surprise. It won't remain one if I tell you about it before the right time." He smiled.
He had changed completely and I liked the person he had become.
"Don't you want me to call you father-in-law not sir? Here is one condition for that." I said.
"What is it?" He asked.
" You have to tell me about the surprise. Just a little bit of it. Deal?" I said
" Okay, since you have insisted I will tell you. I want to invite news reporters over here tomorrow." He said.
" And how is this a surprise to me?" I wanted to know everything in details.
" You said that I tell you a little about it and I have just done that." He teased me.
" Then I will call you father-in-law just once." I teased back.
"See, you are tricking me into telling you everything. Alright then, I will tell you everything. I want to accept you as my daughter-in-law and I want this to be published in the newspapers. You are the daughter-in-law of this family and everyone has to know about you." He said.

I felt happy after hearing the good news. To me it was good news because I had been waiting for that moment but since it was going to be published in the newspapers, it wasn't going to be good for my mother. I knew she would be shattered but I had nothing to do to stop it from happening.
Refusing the proposal would mean victory for Mrs Magie, it would also mean that I haven't forgiven my father-in-law yet and it will prove my weakness to Mrs Magie. I just prayed and hoped for a miracle to happen.

****Scene****
It was that night before my surprise when everything turned into a nightmare for me once again.
That night Mrs Magie called for me. She had smeared the floor with oil, she wanted me to fall down and maybe die because it was also possible for me to die.
When I was going to step where the oil was, father-in-law came to my rescue. He managed to push me back but unfortunately he stepped in the oils, slipped and fell down the stairs and became unconscious. I wasn't aware of how this happened before my eyes till when I saw Mrs Magie coming to the scene.
" How is it possible that you are still alive?" She asked surprised.
I couldn't gather the breathe to reply to her.
" Hey you! I am talking to you. I thought you would be dead by now. If you didn't fall then who did?" She asked.
I just pointed downstairs where father-in-law laid unconscious. I then ran to him and started screaming.
Everyone came to the scene.
