LE TIME SKIP TO 2 WEEKS LATER~

Matthew POV~

I rolled over onto the floor and ran for the bathroom. Before I reached the door, my gut decided that the doorway was the perfect place to give up all of my supper. I doubled over and retched, waking Gilbert in the process. "Birdie? Jou alright?" He came up behind me and pulled the hair away from my face. I shook my head and shuddered. Gilbert picked me up and walked to the bathroom. "I'll clean up the mess," He kissed my forehead. "Take jour time, ok?" He set me down on the toilet and left.

Guilt swelled in my gut. He shouldn't be cleaning up after my mess... I turned on the cold water and splashed it on my face, then gripped the sink, looking into the mirror. My face was pale but flushed. I had bags under my eyes and I had a tired look. What is wrong with me? I've never been sick this long before... I continued to stare at myself until Gilbert came back into the bathroom. He wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my neck. We swayed back and forth for a minute.

I closed my eyes and leaned back against him, breathing in his scent. It was silent for a while, the only sound was our breathing. "Jou have a meeting today." I sighed. "Can I skip it? They won't notice anyway..." He laughed and pulled away, looking into my eyes. "Mmm, I vish. Zhen I'd have you all to myself. But jou have to go. Unawesomely..." I nodded and we went back into the bedroom. We got dressed and ate. Well, Gilbert ate, I had some crackers... I didn't want to upset my stomach.

After that I left for the meeting. It progressed as normal, then lunch came. Papa came over to talk to me and offered me some of his lunch. I almost threw up in the conferance room at the sight of it. He followed me into the bathroom and held my hair back as I emptied my already empty stomach. "Matthieu, what is wrong?" I shook my head. "I don't know Papa... I don't know..." I cleaned myself up and Papa walked me back into the conferance room. "Angleterre, take notes for me s'il tu plait?"

Arthur scowled. "Why? What are you up to frog?" He gestured to me. "I am taking mon fils to the 'ospital. Il ne se pas bien." Arthur turned his attention to me and his gaze softened. "I see. Alright then, I'll see that Alfred takes notes for you." I nodded gratefully and we left for the doctors. When we got there the young lady from behind the desk told us to wait. We sat down and I rested my head on Papa's shoulder. "Do you know why you are so sick fils?" I shook my head.

"Non papa... I have no clue..." Just then the doctor entered the wait room. "Williams?" I got up and told Papa to wait there, then I followed the doctor into her office. "So, what ails you Matthew?" I shook my head and sat down. The doctor, who she insisted to be known by as Madeline, or Maddie. "I don't know. I've just been feeling sick for the past few weeks..." She nodded. She was trained to be a doctor for us Nations and was educated in things about us that even we sometimes don't know.

"Well, explain to me your symptoms." I nodded and went off on a list in my head. "Well, I've been feeling sick in the mornings and in the middle of the night, my body hurts all the time, I'm really hungry and eating things I usually wouldn't." She nodded and typed down what I said on her computer. "Is your back sore?" I nodded. "When you are lying down, are you comfortable?" I shook my head. "No, it takes a while to get comfy." She was typing furiously. "Okay, so when you said you're eating things you don't usually eat, what do you mean by that?"

I leaned back a bit. "I have these cravings and when I go to eat pancakes with maple syrup, I get sick at the smell. I never get sick of pancakes! Ever!" She nodded and got up from her chair. "Alright Matthew, come with me." I got up and followed her to another room. It was filled with technology and strange machines. She opened a cubboard and took out a small bottle. She handed it to me. "Fill this with urine please." My face flushed. "Eh?" She pointed to a bathroom. I nodded and went into it.

When I was done, I handed it to her and she told me to wait in her office and went into another room. I sat down on the bed thing she had there and waited. About 15 minutes later she came back into the room with a big smile on her face and with something that looked like a pen. She sat down and looked to me. "Well Matthew, I have some good news." I nodded for her to continue. "First off, there's nothing wrong with you at all." I looked at her dumbfounded. "Of course there is, I've been sick for the past two weeks."

She shook her head. "Are you familiar with biology Matthew?" I furrowed my eyebrows and nodded. "What of 'Nation' biology?" I shook my head a little. "Matthew, when was the last time you've had sex?" My face turned the same shade of red on my flag. "Uh... I dunno, maybe about two-ish weeks ago." She smiled. "Can you piece it together?" I stared at Madeline. "I don't-" She handed me the pen. I stared at it. A small screen was showing a plus sign. I looked back at her, then to the pen.

"This is a-" I started but she interupted me. "A pregnancy test Matthew. I tested the sample you gave me and it seems to be positive. Congratulations!" I froze and the pen, *cough*test*cough*, clattered to the floor. I stared at my hand and began to shake. "I- I- This- It's not- Wha-" My eyes shifted to look at Madeline. Her smile was gone. "Matthew? Are you alright?" I shook my head. "Would you like me to get France?" I nodded. "Don't tell him please..." I whispered. She nodded and left.

"Birdie, vhat's vrong? Jou're all pale! Come here." He wrapped his arms around me and shouted a goodbye to France and shut the door. He walked me into the living room and my hand wrapped around the stupid test in my sweater pocket. What do I do?! I don't know what to do! Should I tell him? What if he's mad? What if he leaves, and doesn't come back? What if- "Birdie?" My eyes refocused on his, and tears formed in my eyes. His gaze softened and he hugged me tightly. "Vhat happened Birdie? Jou can tell me." I wrapped my arms around his chest and pressed my face into his shoulder.

"I went to the doctors Gil... They said that I'm fine..." He pulled back a little. "Zhat's good right? Jou're not sick!" I shook my head. "Gil, can you be serious for a second?" I let go and he looked at me and nodded. I sat still for a second, pondering over in my head what to say. I fiddled with the test in my pocket and took a deep breath. "Gil, what would you say about having a baby?" He was silent. "Jou mean adopting?" I shook my head and tears fell. "No Gil, I mean me having a baby. The doctor said that- that..."

I began to sob. He's going to reject me. I know it! I heard shuffling and prepared myself for the slam of the door. Instead I felt strong arms wrap around me. I sobbed harder into his shoulder. He placed me on his lap and gently rubbed circles on my back, calming me down. When I calmed down enough, he pulled me back so I could see his eyes. But those beautiful red orbs were focused on my stomach. They looked back up at me and he smiled gently. "Birdie?" He reached up and wiped the tears from my eyes. "Does zhis mean I'm going to be a Vati?" I began to laugh.
