it had been a week since you last saw connie. you, jia, and london finally decided it was safe to go back home after brandon was booked and locked away for good. it's like a weight was lifted off your shoulders.

"alright class and with that, im going to end it off here for today. don't forget to hand it your assignments on the way out. ms. l/n, could you stay for a moment, i need to have a word with you."

a word? about what possibly? you were passing your class with flying colors and you did everything you were supposed to.

watching calmly as all the students filed out of the room, you place your belongings in your bag, walking up to the teachers desk.

"hello, mr. ackerman. is there something you need?"

before responding, the man typed a few things into his laptop, growing at whatever was displayed.

"ah yes. there's this student by the name of izacc. he's in dire need of a tutor or he runs the risk of failing my class all together. so if you're not too busy, this would be a phenomenal thing for your transcript."

you? a tutor? you could barely teach yourself. most your test were passed by good luck.

"are you sure? i'm a little rusty especially in math sir. i don't even kn-."

"yes i'm sure, y/n. i'll email his contact information. now have a nice day, i'll see you next week."

he motions for you to now exit his classroom, sending you into a packed hallway. jia sprints up to you, interlocking arms, her eyes bloodshot and hands sweaty.

"i HATE presentations. mr. rae made me go first even though i told him i don't do them."

you knew jia had a problem with public speaking. which was weird considering she chose this career path.

"babe. for someone who wants to be a lawyer, you sure chose something that goes against what you're for."

she lightly smacks your arm before letting go. going to reach for her phone. as you both exit the building, she stops dead in her tracks. eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. noticing the girl was no longer on your side, you twist on your heels.

"jia?"

she squeezes her eyes shut before breathing out...

"my parents visit this weekend."

you had been watching jia scrub every nook and cranny of the house since you two had gotten home. her hair was pinned back and bleach spots ruined her clothes. the aroma of cleaning supplies and randomly lit candles overwhelmed your senses.

"jia! please babe. it's MONDAY. they won't be here until friday. take a seat, please." her face turns into a displeased one, the yellow rubber gloves she wore now being removed and placed on the granite countertop.
