3rd Person POV

Novokribirsk was in ruins.

Any semblance of civilization had been tattered, and any trace of human life had been dragged into the Fold before it shrunk back to its original state. But at the edge of the darkness, there was a stirring.

Shallow breaths escaped from a single man's lips as he stumbled out of the shadows, holding a woman's limp form to his chest tightly. When his eyes met the light outside of the Fold, he tried to smile.

But he could not.

He could not bring himself to smile until he knew his love was okay.

He looked down at her limp form and brushed her hair from her face, frowning when his eyes landed on the two narrow scratches gracing the right side of her face.

"If I have anything to say about it, my love, you will come away from this more powerful than before," he murmured. "Trust me. They will pay." He held her close to him as he looked over his shoulder at the swirling darkness.

"Follow."
