once gemma woke up, nor jeremiah or belly were in her room. she remembers falling asleep with the duo, but now her bed was empty. smiling lazily, she thought of how grateful she was for having them in her life.

this might be the last summer she spent in this house, she was done with conrad's mood swings and if she was in the way of him having a nice relationship with nicole, she would rather spend her summers back at her grandparents' house.

looking at her nightstand to find her phone, she saw an envelope she didn't recognize, it wasn't there the night before. her name was written on it. taking the envelope in her hands, she hesitantly opened it and saw a bunch of photos inside.

the girl doesn't remember to have asked susannah to get the photos printed for her. taking one from the envelope, her breath hitched, and she observed it cautiously.

it was a photograph of gemma and conrad, she was 12 and he was 13. it was from her third summer in cousins, they played volleyball at the beach against jeremiah and steven. they looked sweaty and were covered in sand. the duo had won the game against the boys and susannah snapped that photo with their thrift store medals.

she smiled faintly and looked at the back of the photograph, remembering what belly told her before.

"even covered in sand you looked cute, this was the moment I thought I really wanted to be your friend. – c."

the next one gemma took from the envelope was from the last summer she spent there, conrad had bought more film to one of her old cameras and the duo went to the beach so she could try it out.

the fisher boy, after many attempts, had convinced her that he should take a photo of her. so there she was, standing awkwardly with her back to the sea, the sun shining behind her. but conrad thought that day, that the sun was just another detail, nothing shined more and had more beauty than the girl in front of him.

gemma was laughing in that photograph, she usually hated the way she smiled in photos, but conrad kept making jokes so he could catch her big and beautiful smile.

"I'm pretty sure that the sun got jealous of you here, you were shining. – c."

gemma sighed looking at it, why was he so complicated?

after looking through some more photos, gemma got up and got dressed. she was wearing a white tank top with jeans shorts, a yellow button shirt opened on top of it. getting out of her room, she found belly and jeremiah staring awkwardly at each other, belly had a towel around her body and water was dripping from her. jeremiah was just smiling and his cheeks were a light pink color.

"um... morning?" gemma had an amused look in her face.

"h-hi!" belly turns to her friend and smiles nervously.
