It seemed to be enveloped in a thick mist. There were plenty of stone walls and balconies surrounding the headquarters, which seemed to stretch for miles. In the entranceway to the headquarters, there were monumental stairs covered in red carpet, giving it an expensive feel. In between was the main tower, which had a window shaped like an eye.
All of the children shared looks of amazement at the fantastic architecture.
They walked in, looking at every detail of the headquarters as they entered. They opened the grand doors and entered.
All of the floors and walls were shiny and clean, with no speck of dust and grime. The walls were very tall and Ophelia had to strain her head to look up. Some of the hallways had expensive intricate carpets and some had her favourite thing in the world; paintings.
Blue eyes lingered over one of the beautiful paintings, a black silhouette of a girl with a forest on one side and fire on the other, merging into a beautiful palette. She held an umbrella with the symbol of VFD; an eye.
There were famous replicas of paintings as well such as the Mona Lisa, The starry night, The School of Athens, The Storm on the Sea of Galilee, and The Lady of Shallot.
They walked along, the carpeted floors soon disappearing into wooden floors, and their shoes clinked against it, creating multiple soft tapping sounds. The grand brown door at the end of the hallways was opened and Ophelia saw multiple faces peer at them.
The table was long; unbelievably long with a white table cloth put neatly on it with the VFD symbol. There were chairs on either side, fully seated with people, with six big chairs unoccupied and a smaller one, which was just as tall.
A woman stood up elegantly, her blank pointed heels echoing along the titled floor, as she smiled at them, moving forward to hug the Baudelaire parents. Her honey-coloured locks swayed with the wind as she did so. This was Jacquelyn.
"I can't describe in words how happy I am to see you," she said with a grin adorning her features.
"We can't either," said both the Baudelaire parents in unison, with a grin threatening to split their faces in half.
Jaquelyn put her hands on the Baudelaire children's shoulders, "I'm so glad children, you're safe at last."
The elder Baudelaires nodded, happy smiles on their faces. The other people seated at the table stood up and greeted them warmly.
"I'm Anastasia Alexander-Jewels," A brunette woman with bright blue eyes said, a grin lighting up her features.
"I'm Tom Jewels," A man with light brown hair and the same hued eyes introduced.
"I'm Emily Alexander," A woman with dark brown coloured looks said, her blue eyes brightening, as she regarded the children warmly.
And more introductions were thrown, as all of the adults shook their hands with the children, some old, some young and some people Ophelia's age. A burly cheerful man with a long bushy moustache 'William' definitely seemed to be the most excited, shaking the Baudelaire children's hands with a look of adoration.
