Part 30- A Good One
Copia had been too stunned to say anything at first, unsure of how to respond."Ok...right. There's no need to be upset Lucie, just confirm that you think Terzo is the father?" Lucie relieved his worry with a nod unsure of who else it could possibly be.
"How the fuck did this happen! We always use protection, the one time that we don't and look what happens." She burried her head in her hands.
"Shh, Lucie you need to calm down, you might not even be pregnant yet ok? We will take this one step at a time. What is it that is making you think you're pregnant." He sits close to her placing his hand on her lap and the other rubs small circles on her back.
She explains all of her symptoms, how she had started having the dreaded morning sickness, she'd skipped a period, she was constantly tired, had awful mood swings and now the cravings had begun. Copia pulled a worried-looking face after Lucie had confirmed she was experiencing pretty much every symptom in the book.
He had ordered her to stay in his office whilst he went to search the ministry and hunt for a pregnancy testing kit. Running about, avidly hunting for a place where he'd find tests, he wasn't very careful and wasn't looking where he was going. He was pacing down a corridor before he heard a voice telling him to stop.
"Whatever could it be making you storm the corridors like this Copia?" Terzo was stood in front with a friendly smile- Copia's cheeks reddened.
"Oh...I- erm I-" he stuttered. "I just realised I have left the cage to my rats open and...they chew." He panicked hoping Terzo would stop asking questions so he could remove himself from this awkward situation.
"Ah. I see. Well, do try to be a little more careful...have a nice day Copia." He smirks before walking in the opposite direction.
Copia heavily sighs with relief as he continues his quest to find them. When he finally did, he arrived back to find that Lucie was curled up with a blanket with a distressed look on her face.
"Hey." He held her back as she stood up. "You know, whatever the outcome is, Terzo won't be mad. In fact quite the opposite, don't stress. There are so many options if you don't want this child Lucie, go and do these and then I will call for a doctor." He handed her two tests he had scraped together.
She was scared. Terrified. She couldn't bare to look. She was sat on the marble tiles in Copia's bathroom awaiting the results. She'd loved the idea of becoming a parent with Terzo- but not this way. And not now. Definitely not now.
"What does it say?" Copia gently knocks on the door from outside, his voice soft and encouraging. "Have you done it?" His own heart was experiencing palpitations with anticipation.
She takes the test from the floor and takes a deep breath praying it was all a mistake...
Positive.
It was positive.
She was pregnant.
A small sob leaves her throat, indicating to Copia it was the dreaded result. She looks to the other one. It was positive too- there was no doubt that she was pregnant.
Without a word she opened the door to find Copia stood directly behind it. He took her into a warm hug, his hand around her body placed on her waist, the other pulling her head towards his chest.
"Shh, that's it, just let it out." He continued cooing her until she pulled away, sniffing and drying her tears as he guided her back down to the sofa. He grabbed the phone and dialled the number to the clergy's doctor.
Lucie feel a strange sensation. She had experienced every emotion possible in the last half hour. She was angry and confused, though excited. She was sad and worried, though deep down really happy. Regretful, but also so thankful. She heard the phone pressed up against Copia's ear start ringing.
