a/n: gonna make this a long chapter with some soft terry here and there :)
————————————
Terry finally stopped fighting Madeline. He realized he was only making her angrier with him. "Good morning." Terry jokes Madeline she walks into the kitchen around noon. She grumbles unintelligible words as she grabs the cup of coffee he holds out to her. She walks to him, sets the coffee down, and wraps her arms around his torso. He smiles, kissing her head. She sighs, closing her eyes as he wraps his arms around her. "Still tired, doll?" He asks. She nods. "Why don't we get lunch then we can lie down for a bit?" He offers. She shrugs, looking up at him. "Are you okay?"

She shrugs again, shaking her head. "What's up, huh?" He lifts her onto the counter, standing between her legs. "Talk to me, doll." "My mom texted me. Said it was my fault grandpa Kreese got sent away." She says, biting her lip to hold back tears. "How'd she get your number?" "I don't know." She sniffles as he carefully lifts her chin. "Madeline, it wasn't your fault. It was mine. I did it." He says slowly as if he's trying to make her understand something complicated. "But had I never been arrested I wouldn't have been sent here. It is my fault." She cries, shaking her head.

"You couldn't have known this would happen." He assures. "But-" "No buts. It's not your fault. Come here." He pulls her in, wrapping her legs around his waist and walking to the living room. "Do you want your coffee?" He asks after sitting her down. "I just want you." She mumbles, looking up at him. His heart melts as he lifts her, setting her in his lap as he sits. He smooths her hair down, kissing her cheek. She curls into him, burying her head in the crook of his neck as he turns the tv on. "Do you need covered up, babydoll?" He asks sweetly. She nods, holding onto him as he grabs a blanket.

"What do you wanna watch?" "Can we watch the Labyrinth?" She asks sweetly, pulling her best puppy dog eyes. "Of course." He kisses her forehead before putting the movie on. She smiles, curling back into him with a yawn. Within minutes, she was asleep. Terry smiles softly, holding her tighter. He's gotta make her feel better somehow. He wants to take her on a date but he's not sure if she'll view the date the way he views it. A little while later, she wakes up to an empty bed in her room. She sighs, sitting up. She walks across the hall, knocking on his door. "Terry?" She opens the door.

He's on his back, eyes closed, arms crossed under his head. "Terry." She pokes his cheek. "Yes, doll?" He asks. "Can I lay with you?" She asks softly. His eyes open and he grins, nodding at her. "Come here." He moves over, rolling onto his side. She curls against him, kissing his jaw. "We can't sleep for long. We've got plans tonight." He says. "We do?" She asks. "I'm taking you out. So, dress nice." She smiles, nodding. "Okay." He plants a kiss on her forehead, pulling her closer. A few hours later, he shakes her awake, telling her to go get dressed. "I don't wanna get up." She whines.

"I know, but we'll have fun. Trust me." He promises, pulling away from her, and sitting up. She sighs, sitting up. "Okay." She huffs. "Go put something nice on." He goes to kiss her cheek when she turns her head, planting her lips on his. He quickly kisses back, pulling her into his lap. She giggles at his reaction, pulling back before he pulls her back in, kissing her again. She sighs into the kiss, her fingers worming his hair out of the ponytail it's in. He pulls away, looking at her. "I can tell you're trying to distract me. Go get dressed." He laughs. "But-" "No buts. Get dressed, doll."

She huffs, nodding. "Yessir." She grumbles. He moves her off his lap, standing with her. "Come on, I'll help you pick something out." He says, taking her hand and leading her across the hall into her room. He walks in, surprised to see things are still neatly packed away, nothing on the walls. Hurt pangs through his chest. She looks down guiltily. He wasn't meant to see that she hadn't taken anything out yet. "Terry-" "Let's, uh, let's find something to wear." He covers his hurt quickly. He thinks this date will mean nothing more than a night with the man she hates to her. "Terry, let me explain."
