"Olly I'm so sorry, I didn't want to give you the news over the phone but you need to know they're gone."
My sister's words kept playing over and over again in my head, stuck in a loop. It had been a few hours since she called, passing on the dreadful news. I tossed and turned in my bed, unable to forget the words she'd said to me
"He was driving too fast, way over the limit... no time to react... they wouldn't have felt anything"
I turned over, reaching for my phone on my bedside table and dialing my best friend's number. I desperately needed someone to comfort me, to wipe the tears from my eyes.
"Hello?"
"Charlie" I managed to mutter out his name through my sobs
"Olly? Are you okay? Where are you?"
"I'm...I'm at home"
"Don't go anywhere okay, I'll be there as soon as I can"
I don't know how long it took for him to reach me, but it didn't seem like long until I heard the creak of my bedroom door as he entered.
"Olly?" he whispered as he sat beside me on the bed
I rolled over to face him, wiping away the tears on my cheeks with my bedsheets. "Hi Charlie"
"Lottie told me what happened Ol, I'm so sorry"
"I just can't believe it Charlie, I don't want to believe it. They can't be gone"
Charles laid down and wrapped his arms around me into a hug. "I know it's not going to be easy Olly, but you're going to get through it. I'm going to help you get through your pain. You helped me when I lost Jules and Papa, and I'm going to help you know. However long it takes"
