"Hey Charlie!" I smiled at my phone screen as I accepted Charles' FaceTime request
"Hey Ol! What time is it over there? I didn't wake you up, did I? I can't stay for too long, but I just wanted to call you before the race."
"You did, but it's fine. I was going to be getting up soon anyway" I told him. It was early on Sunday morning, the day of the Australian grand prix. Whilst Charles was thousands of miles away, preparing to get ready for the grand prix, I was laid in bed in Monaco, watching the sun rise from my bedroom window.
"Okay, I was worried you weren't going to pick up. What time is it over there? Six? Seven?"
"Just past six." I confirmed, checking the time that was displayed at the top of my phone screen "Great quali by the way, you're going to smash it today."
"You watched it? I didn't think you'd have stayed up."
"Technically Charlie, I didn't," I laughed "I went to bed early, and figured that you'd make it through Q1 and Q2 easily, so I set an alarm to wake me up just before Q3 started. I watched Q3, stayed up a bit from the nerves that you'd given me, then went to sleep for a few more hours."
Charles laughed as I told him about how I had watched his qualifying session. "I'm glad you stayed up to watch" he told me, before adding "Even if you did miss two thirds of it."
"I was awake for the most important part Charlie, and that's all that matters."
"True, true" Charles smiled at me through the screen briefly, before turning his attention to something behind the phone. I could hear someone's voice, probably one of the team members. Charles turned his attention back to me a few seconds later. "I'm going to have to go now Ol, I've got to take my baby round to the grid. I just wanted to see your face before I went."
"Charles Marc Herve Perceval Leclerc, why do you and all the other drivers still insist on calling the car your 'baby'? Can't you guys name them like Seb does?"
"What do you want me to call it?"
"Seriously?" I asked him, slightly shocked
"Yeah, sure." he said "What do you want me to call the car?"
"Crap" I thought to myself for a moment "I don't know Charlie, I'll have to get back to you on that one"
"Okay Olly" he smiled at me "I'm really gonna have to go though now, otherwise Mattia's going to kill me"
"Okay Charlie, good luck!" I told him "I want to see you on the podium at the end!"
"Thanks Ol" Charles said as his face disappeared from my screen

"Guys? Guys? The engine... somethings not right" Came Charles' voice over the radio
"And confirm, we can see the issue. Try engine mode 6, engine mode 6 Charles"
"Confirm"

"And stop the car, Charles, stop the car. We can see the issue. Pull over."
"Aargh!"

A/N: Hi all!! Firstly, I want to apologize for not having uploaded for so long! It's been a pretty hectic month, with exams and health issues keeping me from uploading. I'm glad to say that I'm doing a lot better now, and am looking forward to getting back into the groove of writing and uploading for you all again.
I thought it would be a good idea to include the drivers standings in my chapters (although you have no idea how long it took me to work out! It turns out Excel spreadsheets aren't a strong point of mine...) What do you think? Let me know in the comments, and if I should include the constructor's championship too!
Can we talk about Charles releasing a song??? I've listened to it so many times already and am fully prepared for it to be my number 1 song on Spotify this year. Charlie may not be world champion in 2023, but he might just get a Grammy award instead...
