I was sitting at my dining room table, working on my miniature building. I'd asked for an extension on the project, which luckily my professor had agreed to, but I was still running slightly behind schedule. The table was positioned by the large doors that were open, leading out onto the balcony. Sitting at the table allowed me to look over Monaco, watching as the sun slowly set, leaving the country illuminated by lights. Adele's voice came through my headphones, the noise cancellation blocking out the sound of the cars that rose up from the street below. I'd been listening to her album, 21, on repeat all day. It was one of my personal favorites and I'd listen to it frequently.
I jumped suddenly as my phone started ringing, my ringtone overly loud through my headphones. Charles' face was lit up on my phone screen. The image was from a few years ago, one where he'd raised his eyebrows and stuck his tongue out at the camera. I'd always thought the picture to be quite funny, and it never failed to make me smile whenever he called me.

"Hey Charlie" I said as I accepted the call
"Are you at home?"
"Yeah I'm just working on my building at the minute, are you okay?"
"Can you open the door? I'm outside. I did knock, but I figured you had your headphones on and couldn't hear me."
"Yeah sure, I'll see you in a sec"
I ended the call, placing my phone back on the table before removing my headphones. As I headed to the door, I wondered what on earth Charles was doing at my apartment door. I wasn't expecting him today, and had assumed that he would be at Giada's. I quickly came to the conclusion that they had decided to both come to mine instead - I hadn't seen Giada for almost two weeks, which was unusual as we normally saw each other every few days. I smiled as I opened the door, expecting to see Charles and Giada.
Charles and Giada weren't at my door.
It was just Charles, and It wasn't the Charles I was expecting.I'll be honest, he looked an absolute mess. Tears coursed down his face, his eyes seeming as if they held entire oceans in them. His hair was ruffled too, as if he'd pulled his hands through it aggressively.
"Charlie?"
"Giada... she... I saw..." rushed Charles, trying to string a sentence together between sobs
"Charles, stop." I said "Slow down. Come inside first, take a few deep breaths, then tell me what's going on."
Taking Charles' hand, I led him into my apartment, closing the door behind me with my foot as I led him into the living room to sit down. I watched him carefully as I made us both a glass of water to drink. Whatever he was trying to tell me had clearly upset him, even as he was sitting on my sofa, staring blankly at the TV screen. I could see tears still running down his cheeks. And he'd mentioned something about Giada?
"Here you go" I said as I handed a glass of water to Charles, allowing him to take a mouthful of the water before I continued "Okay, now tell me. What's going on?"
Charles looked at me for a second before he answered, taking a deep breath to prepare himself as the tears continued to fall from his eyes "Giada, she... she cheated on me"
"She what?" I exclaimed, shocked at what my best friend had just said to me "How... how did you find out?"
"I walked in on them" he explained "She was kissing him, they were all over each other... She... she was unbuttoning his shirt"
"Oh my god..." I almost whispered, shocked at what Charles had seen "I'm so sorry Charlie"
"It's... it's okay Olly" he told me "I think a part of me knew we were over anyway. We've been so distant with each other recently, and whenever we've been together all we seem to be able to do is argue. I thought the few days in Italy could fix things, but apparently not"
Putting my glass on the coffee table in front of us, I leant across to Charles, wrapping my arms around him in a tight hug.
"I know exactly what you need" I told him, the two of us still holding a hug "You need a mattress on the floor, plenty of blankets, some hot chocolate, and a good few episodes of Gogglebox"
I felt Charles laugh as I mentioned the television show I loved so much. "Not too many episodes, Ol"
"Ten?" I joked, earning a small smile from Charles as I reached for the television remote

We were midway through the third episode of Gogglebox when I turned to face Charles. He was asleep, his head resting against his chest. I smiled at the sight, glad to see how peaceful he seemed.
"It's going to be alright, Charlie" I whispered to him "Me and you, we stick together. Whatever happens"
A/N: 10 THOUSAND READS!!! From the very bottom of my heart, thank you so much for reading my work. It honestly means the world and I'm sending everyone reading this the biggest virtual hug you've ever received. To celebrate, here's a little present, from me to you...
I told myself that 'Stay the Night' would be the only fic I'd ever write... and that's not gone to plan. If you haven't already, go check out my new book, titled 'Solace'! You can find the book on my profile, where I've already uploaded the character list. Featuring everybody's favorite Monegasque racing driver (and in a different style of writing to this story) I can tell you now that Solace isn't the classic "racing driver meets girl, they fall in love, have a child or two and live happily ever after" story that you might be expecting. For me, it's going to be fun to write. For you, hopefully it'll be as enjoyable for you to read. I'll be uploading both the playlist and the first chapter later today!
