- Holly, Jolly -
as missy snuck back through the basement door she started to feel weak and uneasy. " oh my god. " missy groaned as she held her head, desperately trying not to wake a sleeping el. she looked up at the stairs and it looked like they were twisting and turning, it made her be sick. with a mouth full of vomit she bolted upstairs to the bathroom, barely making it. missy slammed the door behind her and locked it, collapsing on the floor in front of the toilet.
" melissa, is that you? " karen called out from downstairs, missy could barely talk. all she managed to get out was an almost silent ' yeah. '
missy felt her heart start to slow down and she curled herself into a ball, maybe she was having a panic attack she thought. the small blonde started to feel every one of her muscles shut down and her vision started to get blurry. " help. " she barely mumbled out. this definitely wasn't a panic attack, it was an overdose.
" melissa, are you okay? " karen knocked on the door, no response. " missy? "
the small blonde hugged herself as every breath became harder and harder to do. tears starting flowing from her eyes as she heard her mom banging on the door. " mom. " she barely got out as foam started to pour from her mouth. just as her vision started to get dark. karen and ted burst through the door, a shocked and sleepy mike behind them.
" melissa, oh my god. ted call an ambulance! " karen cried out scooping a barely alive missy into her arms.
just for a second missy opened her eyes and saw the look in mikes eyes, the most terrified look she had ever seen. her heart broke in two. she closed her eyes again letting the darkness take her over, mike's face not leaving her mind for a second.
—
missy turned as the sound of beeps woke her up, the white bright light making her close her eyes almost immediately. after a few seconds she slowly opened them up again and she was met with an asleep steve on the armchair next to her bed, the hospital bed.
" steve? " missy croaked as she tried to get up, steve jumped awake and rushed to her side pushing her back down onto the bed.
" oh my, thank god your okay. " steve pulled her into a gentle hug. " we really thought we lost you. "
" what happened? " missy whispered as steve pulled away from her and sat at the foot of her bed.
" you, uh. you overdosed, miss. " steve grabbed missy's hand as her eyes went wide, everything from last night coming back to her. she swiftly moved her hand away from under steve's and to her head.
" where's mike, i need to tell him i'm sorry- " missy jumped up frantically and went to pull out her IV, steve quick to stop her.
" he just left... missy you died... for a whole minute. you can't just get up. you need to rest. " steve demanded, pressing the call button for the nurse.
" i, what. " missy stopped and looked at steve. " does mom know about the drugs? "
" yes. they took bloods and flushed your whole system. ecstasy, xanax, weed and alcohol. i'm so sorry missy, i shouldn't of made you go home. i didn't know you took that much. " tears formed in steve's eyes and he looked away in guilt. a pit formed in missy's stomach thinking about what hell her parents had in store for her when she got home.
" hi melissa, i'm your nurse. " a nurse with a little frame appeared in the doorway. " how are you feeling? "
" when can i go home? " missy spoke firmly, steve gave her a concerned look.
" uh, i'm sorry ms.wheeler but not for a few days, your in no state- " the nurse walked over to missy's bedside and checked her heart rate.
" i need to see my brother. " missy looked at steve hopping he would help her out but he simply shook his head. " please. "
" i'm sorry ms. wheeler but you physically can't, your body is barely even working still. " the nurse put a new drip on the end of missy's tube. " he can come visit you. "
" no, he can't see me like this. it's too much for him right now. please i'm okay. " missy started to sob, steve quick to sit next to her and pull her small body into an embrace.
" hey it's okay missy. you'll see him soon. " steve whispered and stroked her blonde soft hair. missy just cried into his shoulder. " get some sleep. "
" yes that would be best right now for you, miss. " the nurse smiled and left the room, writing notes down on her little clipboard.
" you should of told me you were using again. " steve spoke up, missy shifted and snuggled closer to him. savouring every last moment.
" i didn't want you to worry. " missy sniffed.
" i didn't want to get the call saying you were found dead on your bathroom floor either. " steve sighed and grabbed her hand again, moving his thumb in a circular motion on the back of her hand. " was it on purpose? "
" what, no. i didn't even know what was happening until i hit the bathroom floor. " missy began to cry again reimagining the horror in mike's face when the door burst open. " mike's face, it broke me. i just gave up. "
" when did you start using drugs again? " steve asked, moving the hair out of missy's puffy red face.
" the day i saw you with nancy for the first time, 2 months ago. " missy bit her lip and looked up into steve's eyes.
" oh. " was all steve could choke out.
steve harrington was in love with missy, he just took too long to find out. for as long as steve could remember he wanted to be popular, missy did not. missy didn't fit in at all, she liked it though. she had her friends but she loved that she didn't have to keep a constant appearance up or have to be out doing things every night. steve loved missy's smile, her big puppy dog eyes, the way her bangs were always perfect, her laugh. missy was smart and knew what she wanted and it scared steve, it terrified him in fact.
steve wanted a life with missy, he couldn't lie the thought crossed his mind a lot. she would be the type of person to keep him in line and he really needed that. melissa wheeler was steve harrington's dream girl, he just couldn't break his reputation he fought so hard to get. the teasing, having to be home all the time, the fact that he was dumb and no one overlooked that.
missy did though, steve was just stupid enough to constantly overlook that. life would of been a lot easier for the two if steve just opened his eyes.
" i'm sorry. " missy broke the silence, steve rested his head atop of hers.
" why are you apologising, i'm the asshole here. " steve assured her. she looked back up into his eyes. " i'm not the one who died. "
" it's my new party story, hey everyone i died for a whole ass minute. " missy giggled and steve rolled his eyes, a grin slowly forming on his face.
" at least you didn't kill your sense of humour. " the two laughed, steve stopped and stared missy in the eyes, then looked down at her lips. just like he did last night. without even thinking he closed the little gap between the two and kissed her.
missy paused before melting into the soft kiss. it felt right, more then it was for steve to kiss nancy. missy missed kissing steve, she had to admit it he was pretty damn good at it. after a bit steve reluctantly pulled away and rested his forehead against missy's.
" i shouldn't of done that. " steve whispered not breaking eye contact, missy simply chuckled.
" i know, felt good though. " missy pulled steve back in and it quickly turned into a make out session, missy put her hands in steve's hair and he slid his down her back. after awhile they pulled apart again. " one thing though- "
" -nancy can't know. " the two spoke in union.
