It became pretty apparent to Missy that Steve still wasn't even thinking about breaking up with Nancy. They still were all over each other at school, having dinners together and hanging out all the time. It drove Missy insane. Steve told her several times that he wanted her and it just wasn't the right time to break it off, the limbo was getting out of hand. Missy became severely depressed again. Constantly staring at her sister thinking, why can't I be as good as you.

Hailey often told her that she deserved better, she was too good for him. Missy didn't believe it though. Steve was top of school, good looking and popular, any girl would swoon over his dumbass.

The two hardly ever talked, apart from a faint smile in the hallway. If they did talk it was awkward. It killed Missy what had become of them.

After everything that happened life felt weird. Dinner was quite and only a few words were spoken between the Wheeler family. No one talked about what happened, apart the mutual relief of will being home or asking if any weird men in suits followed us home.

Missy and Hailey went to the Byer's every Sunday for dinner. Sometimes Mike would tag along and it was nice. They talked about normal life things. Missy and Will formed a tight knit bond, mainly because Missy was the only person that didn't treat him like a breakable little kid. The two had a mutual understanding of a near death experience. Missy waited a bit before telling Will about her overdose but once she did it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of both of their shoulders. It was nice to have someone understand that they didn't want to be flooded with attention just because they almost died.

Tonight was a Sunday which meant Hailey and Missy were at the Byer's for dinner, along with Mike. The boys planned to go to the arcade after dinner.

" Are you guys excited for halloween? " Joyce spoke up, the two boys nodded in agreement.

" I mean who doesn't want free candy. " Will chuckled. Missy smiled at the excitement in his face, happy to see his glow showing.

" Plus costumes and the scary movies are super fun. " Hailey nodded, a mouth full of food. Joyce turned to her with a concerned look.

" Do your parents ever feed you? " Joyce asked worryingly.

" Sometimes, I mean it is just me and mom. If there's some money left after the alcohol, sure we'll pick up some kfc. " Hailey shrugged, Joyce gasped and then quickly covered her mouth. " It's not that bad. I usually just eat at Missy's or here. "

" There's always a plate here if you need, hun. " Joyce gave Hailey a faint smile and placed a hand on her's comfortingly.

" Thank you, Joyce. " Hailey returned the smile and began digging into her food again.

After a bit they all finished up their food and started to clear up. Mike and Will were counting change in the living room.

" Alright I'm going to drive the boys to the arcade. Will you three be alright? " Joyce asked the teens washing dishes in the sink.
