all the wheelers, with the addition of dustin, lucas and hailey sat in silence eating dinner. missy could barely eat, she noticed the boys also picking at their plates.
" something wrong with the meatloaf? " karen spoke up breaking the painful silence.
" oh, no i had two bologna sandwiches for lunch. " dustin lied picking up a piece of meatloaf off his plate. " i don't know why. "
" me too. " lucas chuckled from beside hailey who was stuffing her mouth.
" this is wicked mrs. wheeler. " hailey spoke with a mouth full of food. " i haven't had meatloaf in years. "
" it's delicious, mommy. " nancy smiled at her mother, missy simply scoffed at her sister's attempts to suck up.
" thank you girls, hailey you can take some leftovers home if you like. " karen turned to hailey with a wide grin, she nodded quickly barely looking up from still shoving as much as she could in her mouth.
" so, there's this... special assembly thing tonight. " nancy stopped and looked back up at her mom. " for will at the school field. barb's driving. "
" why am i just hearing about this? " karen continued to cut up her food.
" i thought you knew. " nancy spoke cluelessly.
" yeah actually, hailey and i are going too. " missy spoke up from beside dustin. " hailey was going to drive me. "
" i told you guys, i don't want you out after dark until will is found. " karen told the three, the boys kept quite.
" i know, i know, but it'd be super weird if we're not there, right missy? " nancy looked up and raised an eyebrow at her younger sister. missy let out a little laugh. " i mean, everyone's going. good business for liss. "
" just be back by 10:00, you three leave together and come back together. " karen sighed and looked at the three girls with a serious look, they all simply nodded in return and continued eating their dinner. " why don't you take the boys, too? "
" no, mm, mm. " all six of them started blurting out, karen looked around confused.
" don't you think you should be there? for will? " karen asked, they all kept shaking their heads no, missy quickly jumped up as el started heading down the stairs. mike spat in his milk while dustin started banging on the table.
" sorry. spasm. " dustin leant back down in his chair.
" thanks for dinner, hailey come on. " missy grabbed hailey's arm as she dragged her away in the direction el went, hailey quickly shoved a few more mouth fulls in before murmuring her thank you's to the wheelers.
" it's okay, holly. your sibling's are crazy. " karen tried to comfort baby holly who was scared of all the yelling.
missy grabbed on to el's hand and dragged her up the stairs, a highly confused hailey following after them. " who's this? " hailey whispered into missy's ear, she flat out ignored her and pushed the two into her room. she swiftly slammed the door and looked back at the two girls staring at each other.
