Dollar Daughter

Chapter 8.

I turn the doorknob and walk in.
The door makes a weird noise which makes Ronald come out.

"Hello miss Lilith."
"Hi."
"What makes you come here?"
"Its my mother's house. I can come here whenever I want. With or without reason doesn't matter."

"Would you like to have tea with me? Nobody comes here so I'd love to have tea with you."

"Okay."

I then sit on one of the sofas. Looking around the room for properly for the first time. There are pictures on the walls which I didn't notice last night.

Pictures of my mother with people. A group photo in which my father is also present. There are certificates, medals. My mom must have been quiet good at school.

Then after a few minutes, Ronald walks in with two cups of tea in his two hands.
He hands one cup to me. Then sits on the other sofa.

"So how long have you been here?" I asked taking a sip from the cup. The tea is quiet good.

"When your mother came to Texas for studying." He replied.

"You mean she wasn't from here?" I asked.
"No. She came from Sydney." Said Ronald.

"Is there anyone alive in her family?" I asked.
"She was an adopted child. She lived with her mother. But she passed away many years ago." He replied.

"I want to see the house."
"Then come with me."

Ronald then shows me every room of the small house. At last he shows me my mom's room.

"Would you like to go inside?" Asked Ronald.
"Yes." I said.

I walk in. Ronald follows me in. I sit on her bed. The room is pretty simple. Not so fancy like the ones in our mansion.

"Why did you lie yesterday? You said that you didn't know her well. But.."

"I didn't want to talk about especially in front of your brother." He said.

"He is my cousin." I said.
"What?!" His face turns pale.

"It means that..."
"What does it mean? Tell me." I said.
He starts to shake.

"Your mother was pregnant with twins. You and a baby boy."

He continues, "But your father was a monster. He had hit your mother which caused her fall to the ground. As far as I know, you survived but the other baby died. But your cousin looks a lot like you so I thought what I heard was wrong."

Tears start to fall from my eyes. My twin brother died. But I still keep a grip on myself.

"What else?" I asked.

He then opens the door of the side table. Takes out a file. And hands it over to me.

The file has my mother's name, Laura Anderson written on it.

I open the file and read it. The reason of her death is written here.
My hands start to shake. She had committed suicide.

My mother committed suicide? Which means all these years, I was given false information that she died after giving birth to me.

"Why did she commit suicide?" I asked.
"This is all I know." Said Ronald.

"Thanks. I have to go now. I am taking this file with me." I said.

And I leave the house.
Only one person comes in my head who will help me, Elliot.
