The wingbeats happen to belong to my father. My father who is now the size of a castle. My father who is a deep red instead of the soft blue and inky black he usually is. My father who is covered in blood. I ran to my guess at where he would crash, calling the servants as I went. His form shifted back into a humanoid being and the butler threw a cloak over him. "Dad!" He looks up and the fabric shifts enough to reveal the massive gash across his torso.
He smiles, albeit faintly, but a smile nonetheless. "What happened?!" Too weak to reply he shakes his head and stands, checking to be sure he is decent before moving inside with the help of the butler. I follow at a distance, watching as Dimitri joins them. The two brothers speak in hushed tones, too soft for me to hear.
I decided to get a closer look. Not completely dragon but not human either is how I would describe myself at the moment. Perched in the rafters was my hiding place of choice. I couldn't make out enough to understand fully but the few words I heard weren't very good. "Attack... ambush... a girl... daughter..." and before I could hear anything else my uncle had leapt up, grabbed me by the tail and yanked me onto the floor. "WHY WERE YOU LISTENING" he snarled, "GO, GET OUT."
I scrambled to my feet, tears streaming down my face and tore from the room. The worried thoughts race everywhere caraling the room that I lay in crying. "Was dad gonna be ok? Am I gonna be ok? What's happening? Why was uncle Dimitri so harsh?" I was more scared than ever before. I was just beginning to enjoy this life and to accept that my other life is gone. But after this I wasn't sure how long it would be till something really bad happens. I lay awake, drenched in tears, for several hours before finally falling into a fitful sleep.
