My shoes click lightly on the marble tiles as I walk through the halls to find my uncle. Dimitri was sitting in the library. In the pocket of my dress there were gemstones I had collected on my walk. The purpose of my walk had been to get a gift for my father and I figured as a dragon he must like gems and gold and riches of all types. Out of nowhere my father comes from around the corner neatly dressed in a suit limiting himself from transforming out of his miniscule human form, though he was a good 6'4" he was small to a dragon. I tucked the gems behind my back to insure he wouldn't notice them. "Hi dad! Where are you going?!" "I have another meeting up north. I've been forced to go by cart though because they are the only human population in that area."

"When do you think you'll be back?"

"Not for another week still."

"What about your birthday?"

"I never cared much for birthdays, you should know that by now."

I sighed, leave it to Thanatos to ignore sentimentality. I nodded and turned from the room, not wanting to disturb him further. "Harmonia." I spun back around. Thanatos spread his arms and gathered me to his chest. My shoes dangle a good two feet off the ground as I return the gesture. My long chestnut hair tumbles over my back in loose waves and my arms, tiny as they are, manage to wrap around his neck and mane of hair. As he turns away to go pack I look into his thoughtful gray eyes. His long ebony hair scrunched up in a tidy man bun. He was sleek and muscular at the same time while he walked down the halls to his room. I hated to admit it seeing as he was my father, but damn. He was unbelievably attractive. I turned back to my room to get changed and see him off.

Later that day I stand draped in a beautiful navy black cloak and rose red dress hidden beneath. The Gems tucked in my sweaty human palms. "I'll only be gone for 5 days." "I know but I'll miss you." "It's OK your uncle will be here to look after you." "Before you leave I wanted to give you your birthday gift early..." "and what was it?" he says, smiling at me in a childish way as if to make me not think he doesn't really care. I pull the gemstones out and we stare in awe as they glimmer beautifully in the evening sun. I drop them into his slender fingers as he filters through looking at each one. "These are beautiful Harmonia!"I don't say a word, I just smile back and twist slightly back and forth on my heels.

He holds the stones as he climbs into the carriage and rides down the driveway out of sight. My face saddens as my Uncle places a hand on my shoulder and directs me inside. We enter the palace and head to the library in hopes of a book good enough to distract me. Reading isn't enough as we soon find out and I make my way to the kitchen. Meringues would be good, possibly a cake, maybe some chocolate. The maids who glanced in shuddered at the thought of cleaning up such a mess. I laughed slightly as I worked and decided I'd clean it up myself.

I lay everything out on a tray and set to work cleaning. A kind elderly maid with immeasurable magical power walks in, shoves the tray into my hands, and cleans it via magic. "Why would you spend your day cleaning anyway" she questions partly to prove a point. I shrug and thank her, "I should bring these to my uncle." The woman nods and pushes me from the kitchen. My uncle is seated in the library again, reading a book in old draconian and sipping tea. I enter and he smiles, "Are those for me?" I laugh until my stomach hurts and then stop abruptly, "Oh you were being serious." He pouts and I give in, offering him the treats.

"Uncle?... Why does dad have to leave so often?"

"Because he has to work." he answers while we munch on meringues.

"Yes but why does he still work if he is so rich already?"

"Because he is the dragon king and a king can't ignore his duties as a person in that position."

I nod in agreement and stop questioning the man. A maid comes to clear away the dishes and I slip out into the garden to enjoy the rest of my day. By the time it's dark out there are wing beats in the sky and I look up.
