The stairs are certainly grand and I take my time walking down them. My goal is to seem as regal and deserving of my title as possible. I want to show respect for my father without giving him the affection he doesn't deserve at the moment. "I apologize for my tardiness." I walk at a slow pace befitting a princess. And in bursts that brat with all the grace of a donkey. "Hello Father!! Sorry I'm late!!!"
She sprints to his side and presses a kiss to his cheek before plopping herself down between him and Dimitri. Thanatos welcomes her. Dimitri looks at me, a slight frown playing at his brow. That's my seat. Fine then. I can't sit at my father's right hand. It would be unlucky and improper. So I took the place all the way across the table.
I can see from here the confusion that clouds my uncle's eyes. A look of disdain scraped across my face. I look from him to the young woman, Cecilia. Pink. She's wearing pink. Thanatos hates that color. It reminds him of my mother. I can see his jaw clench from across the table. Fine, I can be attention grabbing too.
I stand from the table and walk to the ebony and cream colored piano in the far corner of the room where the acoustics are best. I sit. I think. I make music. The song is one of my fathers favorites, but when I give it a spin of my own. Shifting from major to minor and 'C' to 'A'. The song takes a turn for the forlorn. The notes rise in a crescendo then drop back down in a soft ending. I thank god for all my hours of practice. With my dinner complete and my impressive piano piece done I bow and say good night. Thanking the chef for the food takes little over ten seconds and I manage to leave the dining hall only thirty minutes after my arrival.
Thanatos seems hurt. Good. As much as I hated to admit it I had a strange sense of pleasure from seeing him confused and afraid. I shivered at the thought and flopped down on my bed with a yawn. "Tired?" I nodded at the voice. It didn't sound quite like Talia. Was it a man? No matter. I'm too tired to deal with any of this.
