Reena Tansy spent the following seventeen years doing everything in her power to simply disappear. Not in the literal sense of the word, but simply because she hated everything about herself. Even just looking at herself in a mirror was a constant reminder that no matter what she did, and no matter how hard she tried, she would never belong. She would never belong in the world of the Fae, nor would she fit in amongst humans.
Despite this, she woke up every day and went to school, which was not a joyful place for her. She was teased and tormented, not a single person wanted to be her friend. Every student would roll their eyes and complain if they were ever assigned to be in her team or to do a project with her.
But Reena simply endured it all. She worked harder than anyone else at Crestriver Academy and she tried to be kinder than anyone at that school. Her only solace was telling herself that one day she would prove them all wrong, she would end up happier, wealthier, and more powerful and successful than them all. She had no idea how she would accomplish it, but she was dead set on it happening.
Her aunt Nula was convinced that a large part of why Reena was picked on was because the others were jealous her, but Reena didn't see how that could even possibly be true. Granted, she was top of her class and was truly quite beautiful with her long blonde hair and light brown eyes. But the people she went to school with had everything. If she was beautiful, they were exquisite, if she was well off thanks to her inheritance, they were richer than the gods, if she did her very best and tried her hardest for something, they would get twice the praise for making half the effort Reena had.
Life was not fair but there was simply nothing Reena could do about it.
