Reena had finally finished her book. After the camping trip she had been tempted to throw it away and never look at it again, but she had decided that she would not let Rowan ruin it for her.
Setting the finished book aside, she tilted her head towards the beautiful night sky. It was a clear autumn night without a single cloud in sight, allowing Reena to enjoy the stars in all their glory. As she looked up at the Celestial Kingdom, she could not help but wonder who else found themselves in the same position as her, gazing up at the night sky. It was so beautiful that she could not possibly be the only one.
Then again she was alone in many ways. She had never even gotten to meet her parents before they died. Something that Reena had never admitted to anyone, was that she wasn't even sure that if somehow given the opportunity, she would want to see or meet them.
Nula had been reluctant to disclose to Reena the true circumstances of her parent's death, but once she got older and all of her other classmates knew a key piece of information about her life, one she herself didn't even know, Nula realised that sometimes ignorance did not equate to bliss, and filled Reena in on everything that had taken place because of her conception.
Reena would never be able to understand why, out of everyone, her mother chose to be unfaithful with a human. However she did understand that if she had not killed Adonis, he would have not only killed Vayra, but also Reena. One thing that she could not understand is why she had to kill him herself, why she could not have called for help, why she decided to kill Adonis if it meant leaving Reena all alone in the world.
The only person Reena had was her aunt Nula, who was Vayra's sister and she would forever be grateful for her. Nula had a husband a long time ago, but he died an untimely death, due to his line of work. He had been very high in the ranks the Earthly Kingdom's army and in close contact with King Berono.
Faeries were supposed to be immortal, yet so many that Reena knew, or should have known had died. Death simply seemed to surround her.
The worst part was that Reena had no idea whether she was immortal or not. Half-breeds were uncommon in all three Kingdom, but the ones that did exist would never advertise it due to the inevitability of prejudice, mocking and discrimination they would have to endure. Some half-breeds had inherited more genes from their human parent and would age and die like a human. However others inherited more from their faery parent and would live immortal lives, the way they would if they were a faery, while others would live centuries longer than they would have if they were human yet not immortal lives.
Reena was so caught up in her thoughts, that she had not noticed someone jump onto her balcony and sit on one of the other chairs facing her.
