Avana had been restless and unable to sleep. She had spent the entire night obsessing over how she should approach Rowan. So after hours of deliberation, she finally settled on surprising him with breakfast in bed. It would be the best excuse to go to his room early in the morning. After all her plan relied on her being the first person he saw once he woke up.
Doubt suddenly flooded her mind. What if Rowan had woken up during the night and had seen someone else? What if he saw Querdo? They were sharing a house after all. Avana pushed the tormenting thoughts away. Her plan had to work.
She made sure to wear one of nicest dresses. It was made out of fine light pink silk, embroidered with flowers and detailed with beads.
She made sure to sneak into the kitchens and steal the most appetising looking pastries and make perfect coffees, before she made her way to Rowan's little house.
She knocked on the door but when no one answered, she gently opened it and went straight to Rowan's room. He was still fast asleep. Avana set down the tray on the bedside table and attempted to gently wake him up.
She shook him a little and called his name.
"Avana, is that you?" Rowan asked in a croaky voice, squinting up at her.
"Yes, I brought you breakfast in bed," Avana answered whilst beaming down at him.
"Why?" Rowan countered still squinting at her and looking confused.
"Uhm," Avana hesitated. She had not expected Rowan to ask any questions. And why wasn't he already lusting after her? He was supposed to have irrevocably fallen in love with her by now. "I just thought you would appreciate it," Avana lied.
"Oh, well yeah I do appreciate thanks. Just why are you here so early?"
This was definitely not the reaction she had expected. Maybe the potion had not kicked in yet. Maybe it was not working properly. Maybe she had used it wrong. Maybe the merchant had conned her. "I already told you, I just wanted to do something nice for you." Avana stated starting to get slightly annoyed.
Rowan just continued to look up at her in a confused and slightly unappreciative manner. Avana couldn't stand it anymore and she certainly couldn't understand what was happening. She was just standing there, looking down at him expectantly, so holding back tears, she said she'd see him later and rushed back to her cottage.
