I sat by the river listening to the water flow for hours. The frogs grunting, birds chirping it almost put me to sleep. I had to think of a plan. A way to not lose myself in this mess. I was so confused and hurt but I knew I had to get past it to save humanity.
"Lumi." His voice like a siren called from behind me. I closed my eyes for a minute wishing I was someplace else.
I turned to looked at him standing there he was just as confused, hurt, and broken as I was. I knew it had to be a show a front to fool me. He knew what he wanted his previous comments told me that.
"Cye." I replied and turned back to the river.
"I know this is not the future you had planned for yourself. It is not what I had planned for mine either, but if we can save everyone why don't we at least try?" his words were smooth and sincere. "I'm not the monster you think I am."
"What happens when we cure them? Will your kind go back to eating them? Will you clear out entire races of people as you did before? What will our child be?" I could feel my heart begin to race again.
Cye came over and sat next to me, "Lumi, I can hear your heartbeat, slow down. It was my mother's generation that killed thousands, I have never and will never kill anyone. I have told you this. I only feed on the willing. With your help we can make new rules and set that as a standard. If you let me, I know I could love you. You could even grow to love me."
His words cut me deep, but I was beginning to calm my burning rage. I looked at him and saw a man. Just a man, not the monster he really was. For the first time I felt small next to someone, he was so beautiful. I was used to being in charge, the dominate one. When Cye was around, I came under his spell, I leaned into him and kissed his soft lips without thinking about it. His hands slipped around my face and pull me closer to him. His thumbs slowly caressed my cheeks as he drew his forehead to mine sighing. His shoulder length hair falling around our faces like a vale.
"You have some kind of hold over me." He whispered.
I smiled and pulled back to look at his face his eyes were piercing mine while he was still holding my face and he kissed me again. It was like he had waited a lifetime to touch me, to kiss me, I could feel the passion behind his every movement. Did this explain the prostitute? I knew I would eventually ask but not in this moment.
"So, how does this all work? Am I still working for you, as well as becoming your wife?" I let out a weird squeak when I said it. It all sounded so strange to me. Cye smirked looking at me, but I am sure it was the squeak in my voice.
"I would like you to come live with me and be under my protection. Once the community knows who you are they will send people for you." He looked off in the distance.
"What about my family? Who will protect them?"
"I have already worked that out with Early and Corabelle. I assure you; they will be safe. I will never let anything happen to you or your family. You are too important."
His words were so sweet and kind, he was so different than I thought. There was much more to him. He wanted to love me to protect me, but I needed him to prove it. I could not just let my guard down in one day. Trust takes time.
He stood up and held out his hand for me, "Shall we?"
I looked up at him then back to the flowing river. Across the river standing on the river bank watching was Ityanna, hidden in the tree line. My true protector. With the bow of her head, I knew I should go. I looked back to Cye and took his hand. He squeezed it bringing me face to face with his chest. I looked up into his eyes smelling the intoxicating scent of mint and collogne. He smiled at me, and we started walking back to my parents' house.
We walked in silence still holding hands. I wished I could hear his thoughts, I kept catching him staring at me, it was cute. Then I wondered if he could hear mine, I let out a giggle this was not fucking Twilight Lumi.
"What are you laughing at?" He asked.
"Oh, I was just wondering if you could read my thoughts, but I guess not if you are asking me what I'm laughing at huh?"
He smiled looking back towards the road, "This isn't Twilight and I'm not Edward Cullen Lumi."
I eyed him with suspicion, I think he just answered my question.
"Look, I know Magla sent for you. I do not feel comfortable with you going. We have too much to be worried about. Once word gets out of our engagement the city with erupt. I will send one of my team members to meet with her, see what she wants."
"Cye, you cannot keep me sheltered from my job. I'm a big girl. I have taken care of myself for a long time. Do not announce anything until after I go. If she killed those girls, she must be stopped. We cannot let her stop us."
"Fine, but will you at least take some of my security?"
"As long as they are women only, I run with girl gangs." I winked at Cye.
"Awe yes, the other side of you. I do hope I can quench all your desires." He said seductively and squeezed my hand winking.
We reached my parents' house finding it empty.
"I have already arranged for Early and Corabelle to be taken to their destination. You will see them soon. I promise you."
"Ok, I need to get my things. Do you think I could have time to myself before my entire life changes, Cye?"
"You know I must leave security with you Lumi, it's too complicated now. You are everything."
"That's fine, they can follow behind me. I want my car with me. I also need to let Wrangler know what is happening. I will meet you at your home later this evening. I promise."
"As you wish." Cye kissed my forehead leaving me to go talk to his security team.
I would meet him, but first, Wrangler and I are meeting Magla Darling.
