A/N: I haven't updated this in over a year (oopsies, please forgive me) so my writing style might've changed. who knows. this might have a completely different vibe from the rest of it but oh well. the art above is not mine, see end A/N for details.

Dex's POV:

I open the door and there he is, standing there with a picnic basket. He looks stunning. Perfectly and amazingly gorgeous. I mean, come on. How could he do this to me. He's wearing eyeliner for crying out loud.

"H-hey," I stutter meekly, not being able to draw my eyes away from him. Until he meets my gaze and flashes me a movie-star worthy smile. I practically faint before glancing away from him quickly and I feel a hot blush creeping across the tips of my ears.

"Hi," he says, and I don't miss the little sliver of nervousness in his voice. At least I'm not the only one who's flustered. We stand there awkwardly for a few lengthy seconds, I fidget the container of custard bursts in my hands before Fitz breaks the silence. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah," I say, proud of myself for not stuttering. Apparently he has a crystal so we didn't have to use the leapmaster. I hesitantly grasp his hand and he holds it tighter and grins at me. I manage to give him a weak smile back without blushing too much. Then we fade in a shower of sparkling light.

We arrive at Moonglade, and I have to admit, Fitz could not have chosen a more perfect place for our first date. If you could even call it that. As soon as the last light shimmers fade away, I realize I'm still holding Fitz's hand and yank mine out of his grasp. He looks at me, surprised, with a little bit of sadness in his eyes and I immediately feel terrible.

"How about we set up our picnic by that tree over there?" I offer and he brightens.

"Looks perfect!" He agrees and we stroll over to a large tree with swooping, shady branches. Fitz sets down the picnic basket and pulls out a lilac checkered blanket and fans it out across the ground. I sit down with him and the awkward silence in the air is almost pungent.

I clear my throat and open my prepared box of custard bursts.

"Shall we begin our picnic?" I prompt and Fitz looks like he just snapped back from zoning out.

"Y-yeah," he says and takes things out of the picnic basket. Blitzenberry muffins, butterblasts, dawnlings, lushberry juice, and pudding puffs. I assumed that was it when he paused but then he reached back into the basket.

"How many things do you have in there?" I joke as he takes out ripplefluffs, sugarknots, and fluffcreams.

"That's it!" He says, "Well, except for the plates and stuff."

"That picnic basket is a lot more spacious than it looks."

He nods and takes out some plates. He digs around some more and looks confused.

"Oh no, what could you have possibly lost in your giant Mary Poppins bag?" I joke.

"I may or may not have forgotten silverware," he says guiltily and grins at me.

"I guess this might be a bit messy then."

"At least I didn't forget napkins!"

"At least you didn't forget napkins," I agree and grin at him. He grins right back, a more realistic smile, less movie-star but ten times more adorable.

We load up our plates with desired treats and snack and laugh for awhile. Soon enough we get comfortable leaning against the tree and take off our shoes. I'm quite enjoying myself until I feel something crawling across my bare foot. I look down and just chilling there is a massive spider. (yes I know spiders don't exist in the Lost Cities but we're pretending).

"sPiDeR!" I shriek a very embarrassing squeal and shake my foot until the spider scurries off. However, it doesn't leave us alone. Instead, it crawls over to Fitz and before he can do anything it scurries up the leg of his pants.

I swear he shrieks louder than I did and he bolts up and shakes his leg until the spider falls out. It finally runs off and into the grass and peace and calm is upon us again. I look up at Fitz, and even with him standing with one leg still off the ground, arms held tight to his chest, and a slightly terrified look still on his pretty face, he is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen.

"Are you okay?" I ask and stand up, taking his tensely clenched fists and opening them to hold our hands between us. He lets out a shaky breath and relaxes.

"Yes," he says and his voice cracks slightly. Which I think is quite adorable. I don't know what possesses me in that insignificant little moment but I somehow end up kissing Fitz Vacker. Golden Boy's lips against mine are something I never experienced with Sophie, but I'm definitely just as scared. Maybe even more so.

It's a short and sweet kiss, but it felt like so much more. Fitz tastes like dark chocolate ripplepuffs and lushberry juice. It takes every bone in my body for me to not lean forward and lose myself in his kisses.

"I- wow-," he stutters, his voice quiet.

I grin. "Yeah. Wow." I say with a lot more confidence than I feel. We both sit back down, somehow we're still holding hands, and we sit in comfortable silence for a few moments.

"Our first kiss happened because of a spider..." he says with a far-away look in his eyes. We glance at each other. And even though nothing's really even that funny, we both crack up. I think it might've been the hardest I laughed in months.

A/N: and that's my try at more writing. yay i guess. the picture above is by @askdetz on tumblr. https://www.tumblr.com/askdetz
