You happily stroll through the crowded halls of Hawkins High, hardly able to contain your excitement.

"Woah, what's got you so chipper, y/n? You hit your head?" Your best friend Eddie asks you as you approach the Hellfire table.

"Oh nothing Eds.. just.. a good day." You smile, he ruffles an eyebrow at you, knowing if he held out you'd fold. "Okay, okay fine, you got me, I have a date!" You squeal happily.

His eyes widened, and after a delay, a fake smile splatters across his face. "Wow, that's, that's great y/n, who with?" He tries his best to sound like that didn't just shatter his heart.

Mentally he's scolding himself for never telling you how he felt. It just never felt like the right time, however now there really  will never be a right time.

"With Patrick, you know him right?" You say, noticing a change in Eddie's mood. "Yeah, I just, I didn't think that was your type.." He says in a slightly somber tone. You just nod, observing him as you guys chat.

"Yeah.. he's not, but he just asked me to the movies tonight, and I said yes." You say in a less happy tone, not knowing if it was something you did.

Eddie had been your best friend for so long, you'd always liked him more than that but figured you weren't his type. You've seen the girls he's brought around, none of them looked anything like you. So you just wanted to move on.

Little did you know that you're everything he's ever wanted.

"Out of nowhere? Just asked you?" Eddie said as he started to slowly eat his lunch. "Yeah, just asked me during class today, what's so bad about it?" You reply, starting to eat yours as well.

"I just.. I think it's weird, we've gone to high school with him for this long and now  he wants to ask you out?" He rambles on. "I don't get it."

You're taken aback by his passive words, scoffing at him. "Is it that much of a travesty that someone might actually like me?" You hiss back as he meets your eyes. His look becoming regretful. "Y/n.. I didn't mean it like that.." He stumbles out.

"No Eddie, you did. Jesus, this is the first time someone has shown interest in me, why can't you just be happy for me?" You say, your voice starting to break.

"I didn't want that to sound-" He interjects.

"Sound what? True? Rude? Mean? Take your pick because it was all of the above." Feeling the angry tears as you finish. Without another word you leave your food and storm out of the cafeteria.

Watching you walk out, Eddie put his face in his hands. "I really can't do anything right.." He mumbled.

When the time finally comes, Patrick picks you up by at your house. You walk out to the car and he just sat there, thinking he was going to get out and open the door for you, so you waited for a moment.  He rolled down the window. "You stuck to the ground l/n? Get in." Patrick asked with a puzzled look. You jumped a little and opened the door. "Were you waiting for something?" He asked as he pulled off.

You thought back in your head that since you and Eddie had been friends, you've never opened a door around him. Patrick asked again, snapping you out of your trance. "Uh, no, it's all cool." You say with a small smile as you start to drive. You started to feel guilty for starting to compare everything to Eddie, because you guys were just friends. But what you didn't know is that's exactly why none of Eddie's old flames stuck around, they didn't compare to you.
