"Alright class, I know you're anxious to see who your partner is for your final.." Your teacher says as the scattered chatter dies down. You sit in the seats of your small classroom, lights reflecting off of the squeaky tiled floors. "I feel duty bound to remind you all that this project is worth seventy-five percent of your final grade. You will work in pairs, and there is no switching, is that understood?"

The class nods as you stare over next to you, your best friend Robin is anxiously bobbing her knee up and down. "Robin.. It's okay, we'll get paired together." You whisper as she looks up at you. "Okay but what if we don't? I don't work well with others.." She replies, you give her a soft smile as you rest a calm hand on her knee. "I know you don't, they told me that at the shelter before I took you home.." You say sarcastically, causing her to smack your arm as you both laugh.

"Quiet, please!" Your teacher barks, the class falling silent. "Now, I'm going to read off your teams, when you are called please locate to where your partner is."

"Evan and Charlie."

"Stacy and Tammy."

"Heather and Nicholas."

"Jason and Patrick."

"Nancy and Ben."

Students start to shuffle around the class, meeting up with their partners as they sit in their new seats. Robin looks over at you, you give her a wink as she smiles back.

"Robin and Vickie."

Her face goes pale as she glances over at the red headed girl in the marching band, you hit her arm excitedly as her face turns a deep red. "Go Robin!! You like her!" You whisper as she quickly hushes you, getting up and nervously meeting the girl she wouldn't stop raving about.

You smiled at her, sure it wasn't ideal you were going to be with someone else, but at least it wasn't-

"Eddie and Y/n."

God dammit.. Seriously?

You glance over at the metal head who has been teasing and annoying you since the fourth grade, he looks just as disappointed as you. "Mr. Glenwood, I thought we had to work with people on this project, does Y/n really count?" He says, shooting daggers with his eyes at you, the class breaks out in giggles. "Mr. Munson that's enough, I expect you to carry through with this assignment, or you can once again kiss graduating goodbye." He replies sternly as Eddie pouts in his seat.

Realizing he wasn't going to make the effort to sit next to you, you wanted to be the bigger person. So begrudgingly you made your way over and sat next to him, planting yourself a great distance from him.

"Just so you know, we're not partners.." He hissed as the teacher continued.

You rolled your eyes, from your perspective, you've never done anything to him. So you didn't understand why he hated you so much. "Whatever, Munson, I wasn't expecting you to do this project anyway. You're going to do what you've done your whole life. Wait for someone to do something and ride their coattail until you make it." You reply flatly, causing him to huff in frustration.

"I am doing this project by myself, I'll scribble your name somewhere if you want. Just stay away from me." You finish as you face forward. You felt his eyes glance at you, taking longer and longer stares each time, but you couldn't be bothered.
