It's been close to a month since you've been dating Eddie, it wasn't as bad as you thought. He was a genuinely sweet and compassionate guy, you never realized how much he was just.. misunderstood. You also realized that to you, it didn't feel fake anymore.

You sit at the Hellfire table, right next to Eddie as the guys engage you in conversation as you eat. "So, y/n, how would you feel about seeing our band at The Hideout tonight?" Gareth asks, you almost choke on your food at the question, Eddie's face turns a bit shocked, but after shooting each other a look, you just let out a small smile.

"Oh.. I don't know, I wouldn't want to look like the annoying groupie.." You start to ramble out excuses. "Come on! It's almost been a month for you two, we never see you together outside of school unless you come to Hellfire.." Gareth retorts, he was growing skeptical about you two, and you and Eddie both felt it.

Eddie knew he had to do something, "Uh, I think it's a great idea! Come on babe.." He puts a hand on your thigh, your ears beginning to heat up. "..It'll be good, I promise." You took a second to think, finally nodding. The guys murmured positively as you continued to eat, not even knowing what you got yourself into.

How do you tell your fake boyfriend that you're catching real feelings?

After what felt like a thousand years, lunch finally ended. Eddie walked you back to your locker to get your books, he basically walked you everywhere now. "Eddie.. why am I seeing your band tonight? It was your rule to not let social circles intertwine." Which was easy for you, you didn't really have any friends. "I had to do something, but, I remember that one time I heard your mixtape, you might enjoy it more than you think.." He says as he smiles down at you.

You just shrug, "Fine.. but can you drive me?" Eddie just smiles wider, "Sure Mayfield, I'll pick up up at eight, got it?" He instructs, you just nod. You go to walk away, but his hand pulls you back by your wrist, "..and wear something pretty.. I want to be able to show you off.." He says lowly before leaving a kiss on your cheek, sending you on your way.

Thoughts muddled your mind for the rest of the day, you had no idea what you were going to do. As soon as school was over you made your way home with Max, the voice of Kate Bush blaring over the stereo. "I'm glad you like the music I showed you, Max." You say with a smile, she returns it. Since everything happened last summer with Billy, your mom has been a drinking wreck. Most, if not all days it's you and Max against the world, and you're okay with it.

Max reaches to the stereo and turns the volume down a little, "So.. you and that Eddie guy?" She says, her eyes beaming towards you. "What.. uh, what about him?" You say, gripping the steering wheel as you croaked out your reply. "Y/n, come on! I tell you everything about Lucas, you have to tell me now!!" She exclaims. You let out a small laugh as you shrug, "I don't know Max.. it just kinda, happened?" You start, "He's really nice, super crazy, but he has a good heart." Max rolls her eyes, making a loud buzzer noise, startling you. "Wrong answer! Give me the real details! Is he a good kisser?" You start to laugh more, "Max!!" You yell defensively as you both laugh.

"If you must know.. yes, he's a pretty good kisser.. and we're going out tonight, so I'll make you dinner and then I have to go, okay?" You finish as she just nods, "Fine, but can I help you decide what to wear?" She interjects, after thinking about it, you let out a small huff, "Fine.." You echo her as she lets out another small laugh. When you pull into the driveway of your trailer, across the way Eddie's van wasn't there. "Where is your boyfriend?" Max says as she hops out of the passenger seat, "Nerd club." You quip as you shut off the car.

A few hours later, you're going through every article of clothing you've ever owned. Trying to find something that was perfect for tonight. 'What am I so nervous about?' You thought to yourself as you rummaged through your drawers and hangers, 'He's not even my real boyfriend..'.

As you space out, deep in thought, you're brought back to earth by Max holding up a black mini skirt, you haven't thought about that thing in years. "Max.. I'm going to watch music, not work the corner.." You grumble as you keep looking. "Come on! You always dress so.. preppy.." Her voice trails off as she gazes as the heaps and piles of clothes. "Let loose, just this once, like you used to." She finishes, throwing the skirt your way. You sigh, knowing she's right.

When eight rolls around, you're putting on the finishing touches of your makeup. It was the first time you've put your hair down and worn makeup in a long time. Your step brother and father would constantly shame you if you did, so you took up a style that was more.. acceptable. But you stood confident, applying a bright red lip as you smudge your black liner under your eyes. Your locks that are usually in a ponytail are now down and teased up, there wasn't a hair out of place.

There was a knock at your trailer door, "Y/n! Your boyfriend's here!" Max teases as she opens the door for Eddie. "Hush Max! I'll be out in a sec!" You yell in reply from the bathroom, taking one last look at yourself before turning off the light. You walk out and stroll down the hall, your black combat boots hitting the floor powerfully. Eddie watches you walk in, his face changes immediately, his mouth hung open in shock. "Wow.." He manages to get out as his face flushes red.

"Close your mouth, Munson.." You say as you do it yourself, "You'll catch a fly.." Letting out a small laugh as he stands there, admiring you. A grin plasters across his face as he pulls you in, "You look, uh.. different.." He says sheepishly. "She looks good, Eddie." Max interjects, Eddie just nods in agreement. "This is how she used to dress in California, pretty sick right?" She says one last time, Eddie nods once more. "More than that.." He kisses your forehead softly. "You're breathtaking, y/n.." His voice happy and breathless. Your body swarms with butterflies as his hand moves to yours, "Shall we?" He says one last time. You nod as you head for the door.

Max gives you a hug before giving you a wave goodbye from the front door. Eddie opens the passenger door for you, you hop in as he shuts it for you. Putting on your seatbelt, you patiently wait for him to get in the drivers side. He starts up the van and pulls off almost instantly. As you're driving, you glance out the window as the streetlights highlight the dashboard. Metal blasting on the stereo, he turns down the volume low abruptly.

"Listen.. y/n.." Eddie says, looking forward as he talks. "Tonight is a really big night, are you sure you want to go through with it?" His voice sounding concerned. Your head turns to him as he talks. "Yeah, why wouldn't I?" You reply, your heart starting to sink. "Well, we're not actually.. you know.. dating. " He says nervously. "I just don't want anything to get out of hand tonight, you know?" Finishing his sentence, shakily. "What do you mean?" You say back quickly, starting to realize this isn't as deep for him as it is for you. "Munson, this was your idea, I've been your pawn since the beginning. I've been playing along, like you told me to." You argue.

He lets out a sigh, you didn't understand what was wrong. "I know that. But.. well, it's just, I didn't know if I wanted you to go because there's this girl, a regular, and we were.. uh, seeing each other for a bit." He chokes out, his fingers tapping the steering wheel nervously. You stare at him, you feel your heart shatter in your lap. "Then you just want me to stand in the back, and what? Act like we don't know each other?" You snap, he lets out another sigh. "No! But, if something were to happen tonight, I need you to be aware, is that a problem?" He responded. You were quiet, inside it wasn't okay. You liked him, but you guys weren't together, so what could you do?

"Fine.." You mutter, turning your head out the window, trying to keep your tears at bay. "Y/n.." He says, trying to reach for your hand. "I said it's fine, Eddie." You hiss, ripping your hand away as your voice was breaking. "We're not together, you can do what you want." You finish, not even bothering to look at him. Your hands balled in a fist, tears wanting to break free but you couldn't show him that. It wasn't real, and you felt stupid for thinking it could be.

The rest of the car ride was in silence.
