The hospital's P. O. V
After that day Rue would come here everyday, in the morning and after school. If not for Ellina sending her back every so often it's no doubt that she would spend all her time there. Even so she would always try to find a reason to stay longer, no matter how trivial it is.
Ellina had told her not to come again anymore but time and time again she find that this request ignored, so she just gave up. Instead she just help out Rue when she had some difficulty in her studies, which was rarely . She had the familiar feeling of being ask just for the sake of having some reason to stay in the hospital, if she decided to drive her out again . No matter how much Ellina would like to do that, grandma is very fond of Rue presence , adding to the fact that she is Leslie daughter grandma do not take her as a stranger at all. Granny would be against forbidding Rue from ever coming again, in conclusion her worries are all for naught.
5 days had passed unknowingly, the doctor had said that there is no need to be worried for now. Ellina can also already be back to school, but since she had already taken 12 days leave, she would just used it fully. She also want to accompany her grandma, she can also take this opportunity to relax. Grandma spend most of the day sleeping because of the medicines, that make Ellina very bored having no one to talk to most of the time in the hospital, the rest is okay. The James also come usually in the morning, Friday evening , saturday and sunday was the busiest day of all, there was guest all the time coming to visit, most people can't come during weekday having their respective job and obligation to fulfilled, due to these reasons the holiday become quite chaotic when they have the time. Ellina was tired but secretly happy that lots of people care about her grandma .
The creak of the door that was pushed open make Ellina who was looking at the same page of her book for several hours looked up, she had a tiffin in her hand. Leslie regularly send food through Rue , the meal was perfectly planned and portioned , it was also delicious and grandma enjoy them very much . Ellina feel grateful at the same time guilty, her neighbor is more capable in taking care of her grandma than her own relative, she felt an endless amounts of gratitude towards Bennett family . All the three meals are send by Leslie .
This time Ellina had a feeling that something was wrong, her granny was sleeping and would take about an hour or so to wake up like usual. She scanned those brown orbs, her warm brown skin and her curly hair, Ellina can't find any difference. So why is this gut feeling that something is wrong? She saw that she was a little down, there was no smile grazing her lips and her eyes looked particularly dull today.
Rue locked the door behind her, knowing that she likes to keep the door locked. She usually open it around 4 to 5 pm knowing she would be here. Ellina looked back at the book, her ears following the sound of every movement of the person that enter the room.
Rue keep the tiffin on the top of the drawer near the bed , walked straight to Ellina who was sitting on the window sill, with her back to the wall . Rue sit down next to Ellina, she move a little closer to the window to make more room for her. Ellina was a little shocked when a hand suddenly wraps around her small waist hugging her, Rue lay her head on her shoulder and close her eyes. She put the book down near her legs, and pat her lower back using her left hand.
She keep quite not knowing what to say, is there something wrong? Should she ask? But wouldn't she tell her if she want her to know.
Thousand of thoughts run through her head, not knowing how to react to the situation. Until Rue break the ice, "Would you go if a person asked to abscond?"
Ellina was a little confused.
, " Is that person important to you? " running away? A particular person come to her mind, her mouth taste a little bitter.
Rue nodded her head, " Very. " and add, not knowing every words are like a knife cutting into her heart.
, " Will you tell anyone when and where you are going? " she felt the person shake her head, without a word.
, " Why would she wants to ? " the pain she is feeling inside didn't show up one bit , but on her face was the ever present soft smile hiding her bitterness.
, " To escape." her reply was short and blunt, it was impossible to detect her emotional state through her dull voice.
, " Do you want to go ? " the most important question that remain is whether she wants to leave or not, is she willing to leave behind all this and start anew . The hold on her waist become tighter. Albeit tired, her hold was firm and strong almost like she want to merge herself to her.
The pain in her heart recede a little feeling the small shook , " Then do you want to stay? " there was no reply.
Ellina stay quiet, so this was what bothered her. She felt an intense pain in her heart, almost like someone gouging it out forcefully and ruthlessly, an unfamiliar feeling of jealousy filling her heart. She gently try to pry away her finger, to no avail. Her hold feel suffocating, the warm embrace make her heart fall into an unprecedented coldness, why must she asked her? Can't it be anyone but her?
, " Why do you want to leave? " her question was met with the same silence.
, " Do you want me to stay? " she heard her muffled voice. If I asked you to stay would you? She don't think so.
, " What is the importance of my opinion here? " Rue lift her head, and looked straight at her, Ellina was looking at the scenery outside the window.
Actually it's the most important here, if you asked me to stay I will. Just a slight nod or smile is enough, she don't know why they hold so much importance for her . But, she will stay if she asked her to.
Ellina turn her head feeling the heated eyes on her, her emerald eyes meet with Rue's eyes . Neither of them take their eyes away , a cough come from the bed and Ellina quickly break the stare. Get up and move past Rue. Unaware of the eyes that followed her, that was filled with sorrow, is it that hard for her ?
, " Granny, how are you? " Ellina asked quickly helping her grandma with the water.
, " I'm quite good, Oh! Rue is already here? " Grandma was pleasantly surprised seeing her here, but can't help but feel the weird atmosphere in the room.
, " Yes, granny. "Rue reply and sit on the stool next to the bed, making it so that Ellina will have to pass her every time she help her grandma or move around
the drawer if she wanted to do everything from the position she is standing.
, " Granny I will go heat the food first, then we will have dinner. Anything that you would like? " Ellina asked taking the tiffin, her long untied hair brushing passed Rue.
, " I don't have any, Rue do you want anything? " Granny reply coughing a little.
' Her' Rue almost instinctively say when she feel Ellina eyes on her, she refrained and instead say no. She just want her to return quickly .
Ellina leave taking the tiffin to let the canteen heat it for them, she went down the store while doing so, to buy some snacks and other things to eat.
She went back after she finished it all, silently setting the food for her grandmother on the table in the bed, and for hers and Rue too, they just take a long chair and sit on either side of the empty table to eat.
The meal was delicious, granny and Rue talked, whilst Ellina stay quiet nibbling her food. Granny laughed happily now and then listening to Rue talking about some of the mischief she had done.
Ellina eyes cast downward, finding the fragrant and delicious dinner tasteless . Obviously the earlier conversation still bothered her, Rue smile was free and was no different from usual. But, the eyes that glance at Ellina every given time when granny isn't looking reveal her abnormal mood.
