chapter 6 - tension

Kazuha's POV

It's been a week since we got to the island. I think it's about 8am now, everyone's already up and eating food but I left Y/N to sleep. She'd appreciate it. She's clearly been sick over the last few days, she's been quieter and seems to panic over everything. My jealousy would blame Kaeya but that'll get me nowhere. 

Walking over to the others, I greet them with a few smiles. 

"Kazuha! Where's Y/N?" Paimon asks, her face confused. 

"She didn't feel very well last night so I left her to rest, you guys should leave us behind today, I'll take care of her." I replied, leaving out any details she wouldn't tell them herself. 

Paimon gives me a thumbs up and Fischl hands me two portions of food, one for me and the other, I'm assuming, is for Y/N, makes sense, does it not? 

I give her a short smile and turn around, making my way to y/n, yelling them a goodbye as they got into the ship. 

"Ka..zu..ha?" Y/N groaned, rubbing her eyes and sitting up. 

"Morning, I have your food, the others left without us, I thought you needed a day off considering you seemed really sick the past few days, I hope you're alright." I say, smiling at her. 

Fuck, she's so beautiful. 

She flashes me a weak smile and takes the food from my hand. My phone rings from my pocket. I place down my dish and walk a few metres away from her. 

It's Monika. 

I sigh and accept the call. 

"Hey Kazuha, I need to talk to you about something." she says, her voice sounds nervous. 

"Yes?" I ask, clearly unbothered. 

"I know that you're in love with Y/N. It's really obvious. She called you and you immediately left me to answer her call. I support you two however. I really do wish you two the best. I'm aware that she's dating the cavalry captain right now so I hope things go well for you but I'm ending this friends with benefits thing we have going on. Goodbye Kazuha, I love you." 

Wait what?

She hung up.

WHAT?

Okay. 

Uhm.

Alright cool. 

I can feel Y/N's eyes staring at me from behind me. I turn and walk over to her. 

"Hey Kazuha, what was that about?" she asks me. 

I know I didn't like Monika like that but

I feel sad..

I feel lonely now.

How else am I meant to get over Y/N if I don't have someone to love? Even if I didnt truly love her, she was still someone. 

Y/N's POV

Kazuha sits in front of me, completely silent. He's staring into his lap. Oh no. What happened on that call..?

"Kazuha?" I ask again. 

He looks up at me with teary eyes. 

"I shouldn't feel sad, I didn't like her like that.. but I do feel sad. I have nobody to love me." he mumbled. 

Oh..

I move over to him and hug him. 

He smiles into my shoulder. 

"I'll be fine, it's not much anyway." he says after a few moments of silence. 

Picking up his food, he takes a bite only to realise the wind blew sand over it. 

Kazuha started choking and coughing, trying to get the god awful taste of sand off his tongue. 

"WHY DID YOU JUST LET SAND GET ON IT? YOU TRAITOR. I THOUGHT WE WERE BEST FRIENDS?" he yells, annoyance in his tone. 

"Awh sucks, you can have mine if you want?" I say, handing him my half-eaten plate. 

Eyebrows raised, he looks at me to make sure I don't want my food. I give an approving nod and he starts eating, relief on his face when he realises there isn't any sand on it. 

I chuckle at his stupid expression.

It's been a few hours by now, it's around 6pm, the others should be back soon.

Oh, right on time, they're right there. 

"Y/N, Kazuha!" Paimon waves as she yells our names. 

We wave back and walk over to them. 

"Hey, you feeling better Y/N?" Mona asks. 

I answer with a simple nod. 

"Good, that relieves some of our nerves. Anyway, today we found Xinyan's mirage, we went on several journeys to try to find special spring water and there were a bunch of flowers and vines and thorns and oh my archons was it confusing and complicated." Paimon rambles, putting her hand on her head as if it'd help her understand everything a bit better. 

"Sounds like a great time, Xinyan, when did the mirage show up and where?" Kazuha interrupts, walking forward a few steps so that he's right next to me. 

"Well we were just walkin' on Broken Isle when we saw a drum covered in thorns, I thought it looked like mine so I hit it and we entered my mirage." she explained. 

Broken Isle.. I need to do research there, it has some connection with dragonspine, I know it does. 

"Can you take me there tomorrow Xinyan? I have something I'd like to do and I'd also like to see the mirage for myself." I say, surprising Kazuha considering I was sick not even 12 hours ago. 

"But Y/N, aren't ya sick?" she asks, concern plastered on her face. 

"I'll be alright, I have some research I'd like to do on these islands and I'd like to see the Broken Isle." 

"If ya say so." she sighs. 

Once everyone had picked up their food and gone their separate ways, Kazuha caught up to me and sat me down. 

"You're not going anywhere without me." Kazuha demanded, cupping my chin and forcing me to look up at him. 

"Why not? You cling to me like a small child, can't I go somewhere alone for once?" I tease before laughing and agreeing. 

He rolled his eyes and sat down, eating his food with me. 

The silence was comfortable. 

We only have around 2 or 3 more weeks on this island, I'll need to get as much information here as I can while I can because as soon as this trip is over, I have one week in Mondstadt left before I need to meet with Beidou and return to the detective agency. 

SHIT I FORGOT TO CALL THE AGENCY AND TELL THEM I WON'T BE BACK FOR A WHILE. 

Oh wait, they gave me a 2 month break. 

Kazuha noticed my anxious expression and put his hand on top of mine. He smiled. 

"Don't worry about anything while we're here Y/N, this is supposed to be a nice vacation, calm down, I'm right here if you need to talk about anything." he continued to smile as he spoke.

This man is so sweet, I don't know what I'd do without him.
